Even if you have £460m you only have one stomach. You can only eat one meal at a time. You can only wear one suit. Drive one car. And live in one house at a time. So pay the tax. Let someone else eat a meal.
I have to say as justifications go. That was the worst account I’ve ever heard. And I’ve heard a lot of police interviews. I even heard one where the accused pretended to be his own non-existent, identical but estranged twin brother. Dominic Cummings was worse by miles
To all the snowflakey kids out there. When we were kids. We used this. It’s called medicated toilet tissue. But the best way to describe it is greaseproof paper once soaked in dettol for added sting. Why greasePROOF paper was considered even remotely fit for the job is beyond me!
My brother Kash. He’s a solicitor but devotes ALL his spare time to St Johns ambulance in a city that he still loves (though it didn’t love him very much when he was growing up). Very proud of him. He’ll hate this picture being up. But he doesn’t use Twitter so 😂
He’s not furious. He doesn’t care about justice. It’s a sound-bite. What he cares about is himself. It’s vanity that makes him pretend to care what happens to victims of crime. If he cared - he’d have met us. He refused. Repeatedly. He’s a coward. We’re here waiting

I CANNOT BELIEVE IT. LITTLE OLE ME - I AM ON THE BOOKER SHORTLIST!!
Which was even more of a surprise because I didn’t make the long list. Still. I’m thrilled. I’d like to thank my mum, my editor, my agent etc etc
I represented a client in a trial this week where I am certain that we secured her acquittal because she had to pay privately. The defence team had to spend hours seeking and dealing with disclosure before trial. We examined every aspect of the case I detail & because of this -1

To celebrate World Book Day - I’m giving away a signed copy of my new book. This one is the American cover and available only across the Pond! Just follow & Re-Tweet! I’ll pick a winner at random on 14th March - which is my publication day here. Good luck!

We really should just buy a book from an independent bookshop. Actually. Think on this. It’s Valetines Day soon. A card is £3.50-£5.99 and has about 5 words in it. But a book is the same price. With 100k words in it! ❤️
4 days of action next week. 90% of a working week when no cases will be heard across 100% of crown courts.

needs to wake up. Or if he is awake. He needs to get up. Before there’s no criminal justice system left
We didn’t have books growing up. And the schools I went to didn’t either. We had a great library nearby but we didn’t have parents who knew which the good books were. So it was with a real thrill that I bought my 5 yo a R Dahl collection. We are discovering them together 5 & 51yo
Some things we didn’t have when I was growing up and that would have made parents think WTAF
1. Daily baths
2. After school snacks for the 2 min walk home
3. Water bottle for school
4. Bedtime story
5. Child food that was different in any way from adult food

4/ the criminal bar is trying to bring justice back.
@DominicRaab
is trying to kill it. Trying to kill off the criminal bar. We’re trying our best not to let that happen. If you have time. Ask your MPs what they’re doing to help reverse the collapse. These are dangerous times
You might wonder why we are on strike. The really simple answer is that we aren’t being paid a living wage. That’s a bigger problem than it seems because it ends up with a criminal bar stocked only with people who have private means. That ends up creating a judiciary that is
Thank you so much to the amazing team of officials at the Home Office. It has been the privilege of my life to serve as Home Secretary for the past three years and I'm so grateful for your dedication and service.

My local (chain) supermarket has a basket into which you can donate items for the food bank. But I can’t help thinking that if it’s for donating the supermarket should deduct the profit from the item at the point of sale

He is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. He’s always been so supportive of new writers coming through. A real gent. Talent to burn. And terrible dad jokes. I’m very proud if I’m allowed to be 😌
Today - yet another day in which I cook the kids their dinner - fresh and hot - and they refuse to eat any of it. At this point I may as well make the food from the oven and shovel it straight into the bin and cut out the middle-man
-7 money -all spend hours and hours on preparing a prosecution. So why shouldn’t you if you’re on trial be entitled to the same time and effort to be spent on your defence? If you’re convicted you don’t get your costs back. But if you’re found not guilty - then why shouldn’t you?

1. Teaching is a profession. Many feel honoured to teach. But not a “privilege” in the sense you mean. It’s employment
2. The pay is not good enough. Many earn just £28k pa. Many have 2nd jobs
3. The workload is unmanageable.
4. You know this. You’re just trolling for clicks
3/ This government wants none of these things for you. They want lawlessness because in the short term it’s cheap. They want the cities unpoliced because it’s cheap. They want empty courts because it’s cheap. And because they have immense wealth and are insulated from harm.
Thank you to EVERYONE who tweeted and live-tweeted and sent such lovely messages of support. It’s been pretty tense here but helped so much by all the love shown to the show and the novel
If you’ve read it and liked it I’d LOVE it if you could review it. Makes all the difference!
Had the most incredible lunch with the last surviving founding member of the SAS. 102 years young. Sharp as a tack and the most spell-binding raconteur. It was a real privilege and I was left very humbled by the encounter. A real hero.

Genuinely interested in knowing what this young woman did to earn a life peerage in about a year or two of working as an aide. If you know can you say? Boris Johnson bid to make Charlotte Owen youngest ever life peer causes concern
The idea that we own our country and have a kind of possessory title to it is just a convenient fiction. We no more own it than we own the moon. There’s no need to be afraid of others who are in danger want to be here too. It’s fine. They’re our brothers and sisters. Just look
Okay. When I was a kid you could get a thing which was a wafer followed by a block of ice cream followed by a wafer and it was called an ice cream sandwich. Is that a thing still?
@BarristerSecret
Actually the real account was way funnier and way crazier and involved him faking his own death. And still. Still. Dominic Cummings’ was worse
“The alleged behaviour of some asylum seekers”. Not even trying for spin - just going straight for lies. A lawyer who is also Home Sec should know that the accurate term for this is violent disorder. Fanned without a doubt, by her own divisive and hate-filled rhetoric. Time to go
I condemn the appalling disorder in Knowsley last night. The alleged behaviour of some asylum seekers is never an excuse for violence and intimidation. Thank you to

When I was 11 (at my horrible NF secondary school) a teacher read an essay I’d written and boldly predicted I’d be a writer one day. I’ve never forgotten that. The school was bulldozed to rubble (best thing for it tbh). But I’ve always wanted to find her and thank her.
Okay. So £6000 p.a fuel bill. Now just £5990 to find. Actually £6010 to find. Because you have to pay for the kettle first. But in 2025 you’ll only need to find £5990 a year. Thanks Boris. Great prime ministeering. Tw

Very emotional day. I’m watching a Zoom read-through of You Don’t Know Me by a hugely talented cast - stretching from GB to Australia - bringing to life Tom Edge’s incredible script. Very surreal knowing that all those days and nights writing the novel would eventually do this!

Then you need the criminal justice system
Just for the non-lawyers out there. A RASSO trial is for a rape or serious sexual offence. And your government and the ones before have so systematically defunded the criminal justice system that this is happening. Prosecuting a trial on no notice. What if that was your case?
In a new low, CPS staff at one of the London Crown Courts have sent an email to all prosecuting counsel appearing there this morning asking whether anyone can take on a RASSO trial *starting at 1030*.
Imagine being the complainant or defendant in that trial.
Despite what the hate mongers might try and tell you - this was a peaceful march. The only trouble that I heard of was the trouble caused by Suella and her hate army at the Cenotaph
