Jonathan Ashworth, "Suella Braverman referenced Leicester as a failure for multiculturalism.. In a few weeks we will be celebrating Diwali.. One of the biggest Diwali events outside India.. Then we'll celebrate Christmas, Hannukah, Visaki, Eid.. Don't use Leicester as a pawn in

@implausibleblog We celebrated the first ever #York Health Mela (Mela=festival/gathering in Urdu/Hindi/Punjabi) last week at York Museum Gardens. Over 3000 people showed up and had a fabulous time. The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress opened the day and I had the pleasure of introducing the local MP

@implausibleblog @Davesmum21 Personally, I think he made the point very well said, we as a nation are not perfect, but don't encite racial and religious tensions. It is obvious that Europe, as the States, is going to face more immigration due to climate & economic hardship it's up to gov'ts to embrace or pay

@implausibleblog When I lived in Leicester I learned so much about multiculturalism. It was a great place to live and we respected all religions and celebrated all the festivals. Diwali lights, then became Christmas lights and Belgrave Road is a fabulous sight๐ซ๐

@implausibleblog @PeterDilworth1 Well said, Sir. Proud to be from Leicester. I donโt get there very much now. The Diwali lights on Belgrave Road will always feel like home to me.

@implausibleblog WTF? I studied counselling in Leicester from a Muslim lecturer, with white, black and Asian students. We talked, interacted, shared and learned from one another without ever subscribing to some imaginary set of โBritish valuesโ

@implausibleblog Yep, I lived in Leicester for nearly 20 years and loved living there. I did a short stint selling advertising to local businesses, mostly of Asian origin and was always greeted with courtesy and politeness. Many enterprising people in a successful city. It works in Leicester.

@implausibleblog Cruella is the same person who says multiculturalism doesnโt work while being held up by Rishi Sunak as an example of multiculturalism working. How to choose between 2 liars @CommonsSpeaker @RhonddaBryant @Keir_Starmer @jessphillips #GeneralElectionNow

@implausibleblog My son went to Leicester Uni and loved the diversity of the city. We visited the weekend of Diwali a few years ago. Amazing community spirit . All generations together. So welcoming. This adds richness to our country ๐

@implausibleblog Not sure. Isnโt the point that although there is incredible multiculturalism not a single culture has integrated with each other or assimilated in any way. Leicester is divided completely into sections no?

@implausibleblog @JohnHopkins_ Iโm from Leicester. Itโs changed! Yes Diwali is a huge celebration and always has been but to say everyone celebrates each festival is a lie. The majority of Muslims will not celebrate anything else. And the town centre is now full of pickpocketing Albanians/Romanians!

@implausibleblog Too bloody right. Leicester born and bred and itโs a great place to live. I also teach in a city school and I can confirm we all rub along happily thanks.

@implausibleblog It's all a question of perspective. In my view Suella Braverman is a failure. She and others like her are what one calls coconuts. They want to forget where they originate. Multiculturalism is about retaining a sense who you are. It's about enrichment of all. Not slogans.

@implausibleblog However isnโt Ashworth married to Emilie Oldknowโฆ. reported in the Labour leaked report as saying that Tom Watson helped her to โembarrass JC and create a crisisโ ? So even though Tories may be untrustworthy racists, can Ashworth be trusted either?
