How people choose to retain what they can of their dignity in the face of unabashed cruelty and injustice is personal and not something I'll quarrel with. In the face of what's coming, we'll need to stay focused on where the blame truly lies.

The bulk of this interview is actually an incoherent shitshow, but it crystallizes here to explain that the dominant politics of farmers and ranchers is one of self-loathing.
Winning back farmers starts with understanding how they've have changed. Listen to more Pod Save America wherever you get your podcasts. #PodSaveAmerica #CrookedMedia #JonTester #Montana

I kind of love the idea of Trump appointing his way out of a GOP House majority for a substantial portion of his hundred days.
I just spoke to a Florida election lawyer: Matt Gaetz can’t resign his new term early, so his seat will be vacant from January 3 to February 28, 2025. That leaves Speaker Johnson short a crucial Republican vote for nearly 3.5 months.

Rubio at State is actually kind of funny. Check out what was done to that department in Trump I. The damage took Biden years to undo. Putting Rubio in charge of something he's maybe about to kneecap is perfect.

Related: @StrictScrutiny_ has done an amazing job in their coverage of San Francisco v EPA of showing how environmental regulation can be perverted to become a scheme to protect polluters. Expect Zeldin to pursue this transformation aggressively.
It is an honor to join President Trump’s Cabinet as EPA Administrator. We will restore US energy dominance, revitalize our auto industry to bring back American jobs, and make the US the global leader of AI. We will do so while protecting access to clean air and water.

As the mom of a trans kid, I’d ask that you think about the fact that when you blame support for trans people for the loss of the election - instead of the hate fomented by the $143 million spent on anti-trans ads - you endanger the safety of a whole bunch of innocent people.

More to the point, you voted for them to rule *me*, which is why I have less than zero sympathy for anything Trump and his goons may do to you.
Weak people bleating "We the people" and "You work for us" don't realize that they surrendered their rights when they voted for Trump and Republicans. You voted for them to rule you.

I think @carlosodio's analysis of Hispanic voters in terms of who's where "in line" is useful everywhere. It helps explain how those with a definite idea of who's first in line can raise support from those who they think shouldn't be by focusing on who's last.

One thing happening here in the Hudson Valley is smoke from wildfires due to insanely dry conditions. Dude tried to strike up a conversation with me today about how crazy it is. I took in his "Hang Dr Fauci" shirt, his red hat, shrugged, said, "Welcome to the 21st century."

The best comparison I can make to my feeling in the moment is how I felt walking my dogs in Brooklyn before Sandy came. You know the storm's coming, you know pretty precisely when it'll arrive, you have a decent idea who will get hurt the worst but don't know how bad it'll be.

The mention of Poland especially stood out to me. I mentioned in passing to a Polish coworker how great it was they had voted out the prior administration. He told me, very politely, that the current administration was totally corrupt and btw democracy was a mistake.

I find this interview fascinating, because while the extremely eloquent guest @ianbassin and I seem to proceed from very similar premises and values, I find his conclusions utterly delusional. Well worth a listen; I hope I'm the one who's wrong. https://t.co/LpFgidJoTi

So why don't Democrats take up this idea of improving user experience as a core value? Government processes from the citizen side are obtuse and antiquated. Modernize technology, have an actual data strategy. Delivering better is not especially ideological but is a core value.
Democrats abandoned FDRs vision for universal economic security in favor of "targeted, temporary, and timely" programs that require the already insecure to run the bureaucratic gauntlet to receive a modicum of support.

IF we have a free and fair normal election in 28. One where Democrats are credibly allowed to potentially win instead of a sham “Vance wins 89% of the vote” thing… then guess what, Trump WAS NOT a unique threat, he was just an old, racist, asshole with delusions of grandeur.

I know everyone was shocked in the midterms last time, but honestly y'all it is Trumpy AF in the Hudson Valley, and I'm very proud we held my home district of NY-18 and were able to flip a couple back as well, given (gesticulates wildly) all this.
