This romantic ideology that teachers should steer away from any form of ‘traditional’ teaching is damaging, especially for disadvantaged learners. Rote doesn’t have to be boring! Consolidating new information into long term memory is the foundation for creative thinking!

I just caught up with @BBCRadio4's #bbcstw where @KirstyWark discusses maths, music and creativity with Eugenia Cheng, Sarah Hart and Emily Howard.. So disappointing to hear the strong theme: ‘Rote learning hinders creativity’ dominate the discussion. #evidencebasedpractice

Lady with DOG LOVE LEVEL 10. Stopped me on this morning’s walk and said, “Oh gosh! He’s grown!”. Not acknowledging the baby hitchhiker once on my back. Nope - she was talking about the puppy. #DogsAreFamily #dogoverkid #dogsoftwitter #didntaskaboutthebaby

Exploring Barak Rosenshine's seminal Principles of Instruction: THE must-read for all teachers. https://t.co/b9cpXW0MM0 > Find it so amazing just how many discussions can spin off from this. Such a great CPD reference point. Still so many not read it. BR videos linked here too.

This clip of Barak Rosenshine talking about 'higher order thinking skills' is one of the single most important things for teachers to know about learning.
