Yep. Still true. Do as you wish but know what you’re doing. Cheers!

@hubermanlab Well, it is poison! I haven't drank for 15+ years but perceived the negatives of alcohol were still somewhat beneficial for say stress relief and reducing heart disease and other negative outcomes. maybe this is still fair as the study here related only to brain health?

@hubermanlab As a former Ex problem drinker, I endorse any message that suggests any amount is too much..... but I'm also not biased towards those who can handle their drink. Clean and sober 12/15/14

@hubermanlab Public health often provides a “one side of the scoreboard” analysis. If you were drinking for your health, well, yes, this is bad news. Drinking alcohol is a tradeoff in which a person should decide if any benefits outweigh the harms.

@hubermanlab You can do something, enjoy it, and not rationalize it away as optimal—a lesson in self-awareness we can't learn soon enough.

@hubermanlab Haven’t drank in over several years b/c I started running 1/2 marathons on weekends which is the only time I drank so alcohol+ running the next day never worked well; I stopped and never looked back … I’m prob the only stand up comedian that’s a total square no drinking, drugs

@hubermanlab In Germany healthy drinking was pushed for a looong time. Gladly nowadays the government even released an alcohol atlas which perfectly describes what alcohol does to you.

@hubermanlab I enjoyed drinking most when I was underage and it was easy to bounce back from but getting older and losing a whole day because of a hangover isn't worth it. Alcohol is a poison with no health benefits

@hubermanlab Seems like the ability to metabolize alcohol into energy would be an evolutionary advantage, alcohol is more calorie dense than sugar. Of course this applies to eating fermented fruit not drinking scotch but surely a healthy liver can tolerate some amount of alcohol and in small

@hubermanlab Hi Andrew, thanks for everything that you do. I quit drinking over a year ago, I feel I have more anxiety and stress though. I also have adhd. I'm waiting to talk to a therapist, is there any thing I can do in the meantime to calm my brain? Thank you

@hubermanlab Been called "boring" before for being a teetotaler. My choice. I experimented in my teens and that was enough for me to realize it is nothing but lowered inhibitions, mixed thoughts & feelings, and empty calories. I'm addicted to feeling clear...or as clear as I can. LOL

@hubermanlab The social aspect would be the only health benefit but that can be a slippery slope.
