To paraphrase C.S. Lewis regarding courage, the First Amendment is not simply one of the Amendments, but the form of every Amendment at the testing point, which means at the point of highest reality.
@VPrasadMDMPH
is right, pressure on social media during COVID was un-American.
@Riley_Gaines_
This comes as the rest of the world is digesting the Cass Report, which showed how little scientific evidence there is for the claims of benefit for gender affirming care.
This inversion of Title IX is out of step with both the science and public sentiment.
@jeffreyatucker
To me, the worst part of COVID was how adults sacrificed the emotional development and education of children, not for the kids’ good, but to protect themselves.
The heaviest burdens of the pandemic were placed on the tiniest shoulders.
@yashar
@DallasAnalytics
This is actually pretty reasonable. Secret Service just had a massive failure and they need to review and reassess what they did wrong.
@HilzFuld
@biello_joseph
@joerogan
The whole interview is great, but this conversation was a Master Class on how adults should be able to exchange points of view about a serious topic.
It’s ironic that liberal hate Rogan, because this sort of open-mindedness is _supposed_ to be a value they cherish.
@jk_rowling
I have been arguing with people misrepresenting the report. No amount of "well, actually on page 48 it says the opposite of what you claim" leaves the slightest dent.
In the report, Cass comes across as meticulous and compassionate. This treatment is a travesty.
@FischerKing64
UX teams either can’t imagine or don’t care what the experience is like for someone with failing vision or unsteady hands.
Honestly I think most of the tech world just writes off older people as not worth the effort.
@lulumeservey
@CHSommers
This is where things like the Nicholas Christakis episode at Yale and the Evergreen State student revolt are leading. And it has only gotten worse since.
This is chilling.
The CEO of NPR literally calls the truth “a distraction.”
This is a permission structure for propaganda. It allows her to justify telling us we have always been at war with Eastasia or Eurasia, depending on what the Narrative requires.
@wrong_speak
The absolute best part is how the mayor steps into the arena and…starts texting.
I’m sure it was a banger text, but I somehow doubt he’s getting a Profile in Courage anytime soon.
Open (brief) letter to Justice Jackson.
"Hamstringing the government in significant ways" is the _entire freaking point_ of the First Amendment.
"Congress shall make no law..."
Sincerely,
America
KBJ doubles down: “My biggest concern is that your view has the First Amendment hamstringing the government in significant ways.”
That is, quite literally, the entire point of the First Amendment—of the entire Bill of Rights.
@kieraevebutler
This is cheerleading, not journalism. I reviewed the approval process, including watching the FDA VRBPAC meeting where the approval was granted. The members admitted that they did not know what the safety profile would be, with several voicing misgivings.
@HannahBerrelli
The great thing about deconstruction is that it is so easy. Any middlebrow can deconstruct what someone with talent built.
Making something meaningful afterward is where they tend to fail.
@drvolts
Your idea that the current Presidential dynamic is just some pattern of media spin is not reality-based. If you believe defeating Trump is a priority, then step one is to nominate a competent candidate.
It was a mistake and we knew that at the time. Other countries pivoted. The US, guided by Fauci, did not.
The years of life lost among school-age kids due to lowered educational attainment will dwarf years of life that group lost to COVID.
Because I don’t think enough people know the Douglas Adams cookie story and I miss his writing:
“This actually did happen to a real person, and the real person is me. I had gone to catch a train. This was April 1976, in Cambridge, U.K. I was a bit early for the train. I’d gotten
@RobertKennedyJr
There are no other medical conditions in which we allow depressed tweens to make irrevocable health decisions. This absolutely needs to pause (like in Europe) and figure out how best to help these kids.
As a physician I can’t object to this strongly enough. My job is not to consider how my treatment intersects with the latest political trend, it is to use data, experience and empathy to improve patient health.
The politicization of the NEJM is sad and horrifying.
Including carbon footprint as an end point in randomized, controlled trials could help clinicians, regulators, and policymakers understand the environmental effects of medical interventions. Read the full Perspective:
To be clear: the government should not pay Stanford to gatekeep free speech.
To be even clearer: Stanford is betraying its birthright as an American institution of higher learning.
Shame is not too strong a word.
Stanford professors are not benevolent philosopher kings, with an unerring ability to distinguish socially harmful from helpful speech.
The government should not pay Stanford to participate in the censorship industrial complex, violating the free speech rights of Americans.
This is as wrong as it could possibly be.
Once you concede this point, you no longer have free speech; you have given government the power to decide what is hate and what is misinformation, and therefore control over what you can say.

Women’s sports weren’t created to celebrate gender, but to acknowledge sex differences & create a venue for fair competition.
This ends when women & girls refuse to compete against biological male opponents. They have the leverage to force change by opting out of an unfair game.
Hey
@ScottAdamsSays
, is this ad actually counter-persuasive? After watching it, I went from indifferent toward Apple to active dislike. Am I the outlier?
Meet the new iPad Pro: the thinnest product we’ve ever created, the most advanced display we’ve ever produced, with the incredible power of the M4 chip. Just imagine all the things it’ll be used to create.
@RobertKennedyJr
@WoodReporting
The school closures did far more harm to the kids than the virus. There needs to be a reconning for those who supported this policy long after other countries realized it was a mistake.
Let's say we decide cars are important. In fact, they're so important for mobility, jobs, etc, that we'll use tax dollars to give everyone w/o a car a $10,000 check.
You run a car dealership.
A lot of people now have an extra $10k for a car.
What are you doing with prices?
@jk_rowling
This is the reasonable reaction to uncertainty and the risk of permanent injury to children. Sadly, the US groups, most notable

Walz's "school closures taught kids resilience" line is one of the most galling things I have heard come out of a politician's mouth in a long time.

If JD Vance is “Trumpism without Trump”
_and_ JD Vance remains this unpopular
_and_ Trump himself is so toxic he may lose to Kamala Harris—could that be the signal that Republicans have been led down a dead end by what was in retrospect a single, fluke Trump win?
COVID was the worst fuckup in human history.
As a disaster
Those who paved the way for gain of function research are, at the least, partially responsible.
And yes, that includes Anthony Fauci.
I would have headlined it “There is now very little doubt that Covid leaked from a lab”. There’s always a smidgen of doubt about everything. My spiked article on why scientists won’t debate an accident a thousand times worse than Bhopal.

The truth is “a distraction.”
This is not some obscure old post. This is a freakin’ TED talk. The CEO for NPR was chosen not in spite of these views, but because of them.
Violence is not protest.
Harassment is not protest.
Forcing students to make a choice between their identity and their safety is not protest.
Even if you believe your cause is just, taking the rights of others to make your point is not protest.
It’s a mob.
On Saturday night, Jewish student Jonathan Lederer was assaulted and harassed repeatedly inside the gates of Columbia University— up to the moment pro-Palestine protesters stole and burned his Israeli flag.
Tonight, he tells his story:
Walz: In Minnesota we respect our neighbors and their personal choices that they make. Even if we wouldn't make the same choice for ourselves, there's a golden rule, mind your own damn business.
@jessesingal
Every appeal to historical fundamentals overlooks that there is an implicit assumption of a competent candidate to make his/her case.
Fundamentals have no proven value when your candidate can’t tell $55 from 5% in his own signature policy.
@BallouxFrancois
Respectfully, most people don’t consider their right to freedom from treaspass in their home an “arcane technicality.”
And there’s no question that legal precedent supports this.
In fact I’d argue claiming the right to say whatever one wants in another’s home is…authoritarian.
@mkhammer
@bethanyshondark
There is so much concentrated cringe at the White People for Kamala calls that I am concerned it may collapse on itself and create a singularity.
This is not hyperbole. If the government can outsource its censorship to Big Tech, then the First Amendment is rendered meaningless.
Hat tip to all, including Future Attorney General
@JeninYounesEsq

Pronouns are the words we use to refer to people we are not addressing directly.
Her analogy concerns to degree to which other people are required to validate another person's self-identity.

Natal males have an advantage over females in sport. This is not controversial to anyone w/o an agenda.
We can let natal males compete based on professed gender, but don’t pretend it is fair.
Or, keep the girl/women category & have everyone else compete in an “open” category.
@txsalth2o
@HarmfulOpinion
Is there a definitive article for who these people actually are? They look like the progressive fantasy of a right-wing hate group and give me the impression “inauthentic AF.”
This is self-serving revisionism. The US (including MI) lagged far behind both Europe and the data regarding the risk to kids.
Closing schools did far more harm to kids than COVID (which they all got anyway).
Today
@GovWhitmer
said schools were closed during Covid bc “we did not know it was respiratory in nature, we didn’t know it would be people on the other end of the age spectrum would be most vulnerable.”
We knew this in March 2020.
Michigan schools were closed well into 2021.😳
Perhaps Vanderbilt will be the Jump the Shark of Protests. The moment where the protesters all looked so ridiculous that even they realized the cringe outweighed the cool.
I would like to call on colleagues in medicine and research to read the Cass Report and, if you agree that it meets the standard for a systematic review, repost it.
The alternative is to allow science to be subordinate to mob rule.
The highly-regarded paediatrician who conducted the most thorough review ever undertaken on the medical evidence for transitioning gender-confused children has been advised not to travel on public transport for her own safety. 1/3
To understand how serious this is:
EU governments will fine US companies if US citizens say things that are not approved by EU bureaucrats.
Freedom of speech is under threat by an alliance of technology and government.
Resist.
You advocated for policies that kept schools closed longer in this country, directly harming kid’s education and growth. Policies you supported caused tremendous harm, and all I want to hear from you is your apology.

The lack of real consequences for her and Bill Ayers is a travesty. The fact that she became a celebrated part of the progressive left is utterly disgusting.
