At the beginning of the year, I was in over $20,000 of credit card debt. I have successfully gotten it under $6000. Small wins 🙌🏾 Pushing to get it all paid off before the end of Q1 2024
If I told y’all how I went from being a licensed nail technician to a Data Analyst, with multiple job offers, in less than 3 months, you wouldn’t believe me 😂
Around this time last year, I was working as a nail technician wanting to pivot my career. I was trying to figure out what to do, then I came across black tech twitter. I was able to transition and become a data analyst in less than 3 months. Here’s my journey. A short thread lol
Goals this week…
-Revamp my LinkedIn
-work on my salesforce portfolio
-attempt to attain 50,000 points on trailhead
-work on my Google Project Management Course
Certifications that I will be focusing on this year:
💠ITIL®*^ Foundation Certification
💠CompTia Project+
💠Tableau Desktop Specialist Cert
💠Tableau Data Analyst Cert
💠AWS Cloud Practitioner
I know it seems like a lot, but we’re aiming high this year.
Here are 5 tricks that I use to implement Salesforce everyday…
☁️Salesforce Trailhead for training
☁️Focus on Force for studying
☁️Superbadges for project building
☁️Udemy for learning & figuring out your niche
☁️Youtube,LinkedIn, & Twitter for community growth & career inspo
If you guys remember, I was given a lowballed salary offer for a position earlier this month. I was so conflicted, but decided to go with my gut. I’m glad I did because the following week, I received 3 different job offers with competitive salaries. Please bet on yourself!

Stop using your cards, write down your expenses, pay more than the min on each card, pay off the smallest card first, make more money (side hustle, promotion, etc)
Here are 3 Certifications that you can get for SQL. These are not required to learn SQL or get a job in Data Analytics
✨ Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Fundamentals
✨ Oracle Database SQL Certified Associate Certification
✨ IBM Certified Database Associate
I can’t respond to everyone, but if you are looking to get into data analytics, these are some tools that you can get started with…
-SQL
-Tableau
-Javascript
-Python

I’ve noticed this more for the “non-technical” tech roles like Administrators, BAs, etc. Fortunately for my data analyst role & developer roles I’ve seen, they have onboarding for about a month before being given any projects to do on your own.
All jobs I’ve gotten in tech so far, I got thrown into the role, no training. So my advice would be starting to create your own “onboarding” docs. Your first few weeks or so should be establishing a plan of how to do your job & who the key players are that you need to do that.
For YouTube,
@Alex_TheAnalyst
is really helpful and has a data analyst bootcamp series. I suggest watching those videos and after watching each one, offset it with a course in Data Camp. Ex: Watch Alex’s SQL Basics tutorials and then take a beginner SQL course on DataCamp.
Just completed my first project at work today. The serotonin boost I just got from moving the project from in progress to complete in the project tracker 🙌🏾
My advise for paying off cc debt.
•Stop using your cards (just stopped doing this & I’ve noticed a difference)
•Target your lowest card first
•Pay way more than the minimum each month
•Make more money (side hustle, new job, promotion, etc)
Don’t let the tech layoffs discourage you. Most of the layoffs are from popular tech companies. Look for companies that you love that have tech positions open. You don’t have to work for a tech company to work in tech!
The best advice I received when interviewing was to make a project based on the company. I did this with 2 of the offers I received, and definitely stood out in this tough climate. I received this advice from
@unscoopable_b
. Follow her, I’m not a tech influencer 😂
I just got offered a job in tech, but the salary is horrible. I’m debating if I should take it to get my foot in the door or keep looking. It’s not remote either. Idk, I’m torn 😩
I was back to square one. I decided to go back into the Google course and elaborate on what was taught. I used DataCamp and YouTube to learn more. I decided to focus on SQL, Excel, and Tableau. I strongly recommend focusing on one or a few things. Don’t get overwhelmed.
I’ve already tweeted about the certs that I am going to be focusing on this year, but I will be starting with the Tableau Desktop Specialist Cert & Tableau Data Analyst Cert

Servers usually have to pay out gussets, bartenders, bar backs, etc between 10-25% of their food & beverage sales, so yes it does matter what you buy vs what you tip
Disclaimer: I know that everyone thinks getting into tech is a “get rich quick” scheme, and by NO WAY is it at all. It is hard work and uses a lot of brain power, but it can be a challenging, yet rewarding field.
I applied to 22 open positions, interviewed with 4 companies, made it to the final round with all, & received 3 offers, all around the same month. I decided on the company that I’m with now bc they had an amazing training program & I knew that I needed more hands on experience.
Practice interviewing! Use the STAR method. Set up mock interviews, sell yourself & those transferable skills, highlight your strengths, & don’t sell yourself short. You can always learn new skills & companies are willing to allow you to learn and grow, if you are the right fit.
For those wondering about the data analyst repository, it’s not gonna be done until next month sometime! I’m literally putting my all into it and adding it to my own website/blog
I also used YouTube to help build my portfolio. I suggest watching a few portfolio videos and looking at some on LinkedIn, looking at Kaggle datasets, etc. Do your research, obviously.
I want to start by saying that I hold a bachelors degree and have a background in math, science, and statistics. I have also held various positions such as teacher, coordinator, & project manager. Figuring out and applying my transferable skills was a big factor in my journey.
Idk about y’all, but I love a good deal or dupe. Fragrances, candles, clothes… it doesn’t matter how much I make, I will always look for deals or buy a dupe
Sometimes you gotta put $5.00 in the gas tank, scrape up a lil change for something to eat, ask to borrow $20 til next week…but a lot of YALL act like it never has been you & I don’t like that…IM HUMBLED & BLESSED WON'T EVER FORGET THEM HARD TIMES!!
The 1st month of the bootcamp was Salesforce. I had already worked with it, but participated anyway. Learned some new things, but I was excited about learning Data Analytics from people in the industry. Long story short, the bootcamp crumbled before we got to the data portion lol
Megan Markle & Prince Harry are crybabies. Megan was okay being the token until it didn’t fit her agenda. She is not an ally and neither is her husband. I do not want to hear anything else about them. Keep it in the UK, please!
After stumbling upon tech twitter, I knew that it was something I wanted to transition into. I learned that I loved the analyzing part of tech, and decided to take the Google Data Analytics Course to see if it would be something that I liked. It was, but I needed more.
I honestly haven’t even celebrated my wins, I’ve just been trying to pay my debts down. I’m super hard on myself (Virgo 😭) but as soon as this debt is paid off, it’s up

Well, if anyone is in Los Angeles, I do bomb nails from home, and I never charge over $75, including Swarovski’s. Check out my nail page

I researched and found a bootcamp that so many people and companies talked abt & vetted. It incorporated something I was already familiar with, Salesforce, with Data Analytics, something that I wanted to learn more about. I decided to join with lots of others, BIG MISTAKE lol.
I’ve never really had a 5 year plan, but transitioning to tech may have been the best decision I have ever made. It’s going to get me the financial freedom I thought I could never have. I can’t wait to get into real estate w/ my tech bag
