Happy Birthday Breonna Taylor❤️
We won’t let them forget you, we are still fighting
“The most disrespected person in America is the black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the black woman. The most neglected person in America is the black woman.” -Malcolm X 🕊
About a year ago, I was working two jobs and still only made 25-30k. I wasn’t happy. Around this time last year, I quit both of them.
I pivoted into tech, and basically QUADRUPLED my salary in 3MONTHS. No degree. Today I work at a company where I love what I do.
How? A 🧵
@BeautyAerin
That girl is NOT her friend. I’ve literally been in this situation and dropped the friend. I’m sorry I don’t know how to pull up weak, my middle name is showstopper. She’s definitely jealous of your friend
@ashleyamora
As a former thin black girl, I can say I wanted to be thick just to see if I could do it + bullying but never aspired to be bbl thick, but gym influencer thick 😭
Feel like the more I learn about tech, the more I think about how crazy it is that OUR people didn’t learn that these opportunities existed as career options in school. I swear if I had known I had these options in high school?
Like people weren’t really talking about tech yk?
Y’all remember how I was basically a lowkey TA for that bootcamp that shall not be named?
Well now I’m a real Salesforce TA for a legitimate program! A full circle moment fr.
And y’all know I love helping others and teaching so I’m v excited 🤭💕
Officially one year ago today I had ENOUGH at my current job(s) and put in my 2 weeks after 4 years at my main job and 2 at my side gig
Idk what my next move was at first but once I figured out it was tech, in 3months I broke in and quadrupled my salary.
A journey it’s been
So I have a question,
I know it’s very much “don’t buy a house right now” but I feel like it’s just going to keep getting worse so like when should people buy houses again??? Lolll
Y’all. I deadass built a Salesforce app live on zoom in real time for over 100+ people and explained it step by step. I didn’t know what Salesforce was 2mo ago 🤯
I hope I am making
@tvnkth
proud😂
This is why I made my likkle single thread and gave context on how I got in tech in 3mo and quadrupled my income, one and done cuz y’all not finna get on here and call me all kinds of names. I’ll drag a mf all day😭😭😭
Since I joined the tech money wave, life been really good. I was able to move out my parents house and have my own crib in the most expensive city in the world, travel the way I want, and I smile a lot more. Also I adore the work I do!
@atiralyons
And if you need storefronts and businesses transformed inside or out and rebranded to standout on the block and bring in more business, I’m ya girl😉
I know Pilates is trendy rn but I would also like to point to another really amazing hobby that is great exercise, a life saving skill, though a bit more messy…
Swimming >>>
As a lifeguard, I’m always trying to get more black people to learn to swim😩 pls yall
Oh and I’ll just say this as well, cuz y’all making a lot of assumptions under
@BrieCouture_
tweet,
Career pivoting no matter how long or short doesn’t automatically mean you start at entry level. TRANSFERABLE SKILLS exist.
Signed, someone who went straight to a mid level role
Exactly 3 years ago today I was at the lowest place, fighting for my life
I wrote this in my tablet in July of this year
Look at me now!!! My first day is tomorrow.
God is so good, ALL the time.
Timeline gunna be in shambles if I ever tell my story on how I broke into tech in technically 3mo., no degree, and am doing just fine on the job.
But again, I worked my ass off, had a strategy but I also consider myself just as lucky with the hiring climate being what it is
Just picked up the cutest gig that’s only like 5 hours a week (great $$ tho!) as a TA in a program teaching people how to use Salesforce who come from a no experience background, just like how I started!
And those that know, know I LOVE teaching and helping. I’m so excited!
Disclaimer: Tech is NOT a get rich quick scheme, there’s no magic formula. It’s HARD work. But it can be fun! To pivot quickly, be intentional. What I did & recommend, a LONG🧵:
@SonoTravels
I found my purpose and started a business to help black youth and the community through art in a whole panoramic. It’s going really well. We did a wholeASS building for our very first job.
Mock interviews are great practice. Practice speaking clearly but comfortably. Work on selling yourself, highlighting strengths. ALWAYS use the STAR method. Don’t forget to interview THEM too. And don’t let anxiety get to you. APPLY. The worst they can say is no. Good luck. 15/15
To my fellow
#MTBF
cohort 2 students, I want us all to remember that this journey is unique to the individual. Please don’t get caught up comparing yourself or your progress based on what you see others posting.
Use it as motivation if anything, but give yourself grace too!✨
YALL.
I just used ChatGpt to tell me how to create a SalesForce flow using some unfamiliar elements I was spending my time on trailhead learning…and it worked🤯
Lowkeyyyy y’all, I am working to get out of my introvert shell a bit so I volunteered today to share and explain in class and Everyone is so nice and supportive🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹 I love it here
#MTBF
I definitely would like more meaningful friendships with women especially entering a new career so I’m hopeful I find them in the bootcamp
@MyTechBF
A plus if you’re in NYC or a creative☺️🤞🏾
Timeline gunna be in shambles if I ever tell my story on how I broke into tech in technically 3mo., no degree, and am doing just fine on the job.
But again, I worked my ass off, had a strategy but I also consider myself just as lucky with the hiring climate being what it is
I’ve officially passed the 90 day probation at my new job🥂
In my 1 on 1 w/my manager this week we talked about my career aspirations and the support I can receive. My company plans to build a cyber sector out in the coming years so there is plenty of opportunity where I’m at🥹
When I first interviewed for my job and they were like oh for work style we like working alone mostly, we meet like once a week for anything…I didn’t actually believe them
They were not lying lmaoooo my introverted ass is having a blast😂
Aware of the hiring climate, I knew I needed to standout too, to be niche. Literally Google,“what tech jobs involve *the transferable skills from your previous experience* and start there. If you already work at a company you love, look to see if they have an IT department 6/
For anyone in Cohort 2 feeling overwhelmed, I promise you getting organized and creating a schedule will be SO helpful. I am willing to sit down with people and help curate custom schedules if needed so anyone want some help just hmu! Again, I love helping people lol
#mtbf
Whoever is at Salesforce World Tour Day in NYC and is in the bear costume, deserves a raise, I still can’t tell if this is a robot LMAOOO but he got me gooood
I really think SNow is going to grow to be as large as SalesForce and have the longevity. My ass is dedicated to moving into cybersec but SNow definitely interests me as well👀
If you told me a few years ago, I would actuallyyy work in IT, be in a Linux program& be preparing to enter NYU Tandom school of Engineering for their Bridge program to be eligible for an MS in Cybersecurity & be hella excited
I would not believe you. I’m such a nerd tho😭
Once you figure out what your niche is, carving your path to success will be much easier as you’ll know what kind of projects, certs and experience will help you get there.
I feel like I’m still working through mine
With tech, there’s always something new to learn lol it’s SO easy to get distracted trying to learn everything at once, and things that don’t align—-all just prolongs the journey.
Roadmapping is important! Transferable skills are also important.
Being a SME first
I can damn near promise, if y’all are proactive and see my study board thru, come to mock interview sessions, and everything else I’m working on—you gon get the tech job! No way to fail
I better see y’all ACTIVE in my discord & study board. I worked hard AF on the board😭 Pls🫶🏽
ALL of this shit is mental. The second I realized that, I changed my life. My mind is extremely powerful.
I operate in faith that’s damn near delusional.
I do everything I want. I always have it my way because I said so.
Simple.
Does anyone else feel this..
A challenge with upskilling is you can learn something but if you’re not putting it into daily practice ie using it during your job, it’s hard to maintain unless you are constantly doing your own projects
But then like when do you take a break😭
Despite this chaos, I had to be in the mood for a final round today. I knew I’d be speaking to the direct client I would be working with in the org, for SF adoption to a team with 0 knowledge. So last night I customized around NPSP to show while tell
It helped me standout🙏🏽
My first mistake, I wasted time just being random and NOT intentional. Ima nerd & wanted to learn everything, I purchased Udemy courses from topics of cyber all the way to technical writing. I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I knew I did NOT want to be a programmer😂 4/
Pssst, it’s me again.
You were NOT put on Earth to suffer. Work to move away from identifying with your fears, or doubts. Get out of your comfort zone. Stop being so safe. Take a risk.
You were put here to run it the fuck up. BET ON YOURSELF
This lady deadass had me meet with her outside of official interview rounds just to chat with me more and explain the role bc she enjoyed our convo so much😭 and that’sssss when you know you’re a great interviewer—bc we’re just having convos at this point, it’s v comfortable
First, I do not come from a “tech” background or have that degree. MY unconventional journey. I worked hard & also I was lucky. I left all my jobs because I just knew I was capable of more and I wanted more for myself, especially a career where there was room for growth. 2/
Lmaoooo one thing about my city, we are generally unimpressed and very real. So yes, I’m sure he was treated just like anybody else. We do not perform here😂
Keith Lee repeatedly says he just wants to eat food and be treated like everybody else. He came the city where that’s exactly how it goes and he says he didn’t feel welcomed.
Hi. This is your reminder to ASK FOR BIGGER THINGS. Just do it.
When you’re a child, you think limitlessly. Then somehow along the way through life as you grow, you lose that and you create limits. We’re taught it’s admirable to be modest.
NO! THINK BIGGER. ASK FOR MORE.
Alrightttt I finally made a tech Tok, and it will be about ACTUAL work I do/study & NO FLUFF and no fancy shit cuz I’m new here😭 I want to continue being helpful & ✨relatable✨ so come along if you wish for daily updates!
Lemme be another testimony yall! I did it in 3! Don’t quit. What’s for you is for you and God gon always place you where you need to be✨ God is good ALL the time
Also for context about their current strike: UPS drivers already make that and got approved for more than that but are standing in solidarity with PT workers who only make $16/hr
The real tea is y’all don’t want UPS drivers making $42/hr because y’all don’t make $42/hr, and the only way you can maintain whatever fake ass superiority complex you have is by trying to say they somehow deserve less.
I have a lot of new followers so guess I’ll finally drop my how eyeeeee broke into tech in 3mo and quadrupled my salary…no degreeeee in my next post, a thread (pls don’t come in my mentions on some stupid shit lmaooo)
