@RepAnnieKuster The @FCC has lawyers better than me, but it certainly seems like the only thing that expired was the FCC's authority to grant licenses pursuant to 309(j) (i.e., by auction). Seems like they should be able to grant them under other parts of the statute (like STAs) #subcommtech

At #subcommtech, @RepRichHudson is right "Congress needs to reexamine what the USF supports and how it's funded." @ITIFdc has detailed How the Universal Service Fund Can Better Serve Consumers While Spending Less:

Future of Rural Broadband Hearing: What kind of reforms would you make? TPI's Scott Wallsten: ACP is a $30 subsidy that can only go to one company which affects prices. If it can be split between different companies, the subsidy could be better for competition #ACP #SubCommTech

Great that spectrum is headlining the first #SubCommTech hearing of the new Congress! Here's hoping productivity-focused spectrum policy will win the day.

@JRosenworcelFCC makes it clear that the Commission must work with communities to streamline #permitting. She correctly points out that municipalities do not appreciate Washington telling them what they can and can't do in their own backyard. We couldn't agree more. #subcommtech

Right now, #SubCommTech is holding a hearing in which all the witnesses seem to have been chosen to promote giving all available wireless spectrum to the "cellular triumverate" - the three big cell phone companies - rather than making it available to innovators who might compete.

ICYMI! TPI Pres & Sr Fellow Scott Wallsten @scottwallsten testified at U.S. House E&C's Future of Rural Broadband Hearing #SubCommTech last week. He made 4 points re: BEAD funds. Read his testimony here! https://t.co/Kyg3i6GLfi

Today's #subcommtech hearing will dive into the Affordable Connectivity Program. Biden admin making a strong push for reauthorization, but important to remember there is also a strong, conservative case for the program.

At the #SubCommTech hearing on #wireless technology, @CTIA Exec VP Brad Gillen testfies about need for more licensed spectrum for wireless use, cites just-released study, "The Economic Impact of Each Additional 100 MHz of Mid-band Spectrum for Mobile": https://t.co/ZeaY21TO4L

@thejoekane Alas, the #SubCommTech hearing appears NOT to be focused on productivity but rather on giving all spectrum to the unproductive, non-innovative cellular triumverate. And keeping it away from small innovators like WISPs.

#SubCommTech is considering 32 bills that address BB deployment, many of which are still drafts that have not been introduced in the House. Over the next couple of months, the #SubCommTech GOP majority is likely to agree on a package of bills to advance to the full @HouseCommerce

Conservatives have been fighting for a program like ACP for a long time, and if funding lapses we are left with less efficient alternatives with no path for future voucher. The #subcommtech hearing today should dive into these issues, as well as reforms to get bipartisan support.

@DorisMatsui @cathymcmorris @Ntia @DavidsonNTIA .@DavidsonNTIA: Additional studies of lower 3 GHz band are because "we didn't want to give up on that band." Will now look at spectrum sharing and relocating federal systems What was the DOD study doing then??? #subcommtech

Getting underway at #subcommtech about the video marketplace: should streaming service be saddled with Cable TV regs? @boblatta is right: "we should focus on deregulating an overly regulated industry instead of imposing archaic regs onto" streaming. https://t.co/RWwKS5yJ5K

#subcommtech A comment was just made about Japan and UK having allocated 3-5X more spectrum than USA? From low to mid to high band, lets inventory this! Further, Id like to see actual usage of those frequencies since auctioned! @realDonaldTrump @elonmusk @howardlutnick #ntia

#SubCommTech underway with @boblatta and @DorisMatsui highlighting the need to renew @FCC auction authority and preserve #ACP. Unfortunately, these 2 issues seem to have a lot in common: everyone agrees they're good but attempts to extend them just fizzle out.

@EnergyCommerce @FCC @RepYvetteClarke Success? Have you looked at the massive industry debt, American citizens pay the highest per Gb for service in world, many dead zones and spectrum warehouses, digital divides (ACH needs), corporate welfare needs, lack of local providers etc. #subcommtech
