Today in Southern labor history, we remember the 1968 Memphis Sanitation Workers’ strike. Most remember this strike for its association with the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. But few know the whole story. 📽️.#LaborHistory #UnionsForAll

The Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) was founded in Chicago June 27, 1905. Committed to revolutionary industrial unionism and active in several countries, the IWW became a major force in the US labor movement into the 1920s. It remains active to this day. #OTD #LaborHistory

A haunting reminder of the past: coal miners packed into cages, descending into the mines in the early 1900s. Their labor fueled progress, but at what cost? ⚒️.#LaborHistory #History

The UPWA championed the Civil Rights Movement. In 1950, they required all union locals to have anti-discrimination departments & the national union kept a close eye. They were ahead of their time in ensuring the fair treatment of all workers. #BlackHistoryMonth #laborhistory #1u
