#OnThisDay in 1865, a military tribunal convicted 8 conspirators who worked with John Wilkes Booth to assassinate President Lincoln. That same day, President Johnson upheld the verdicts. Four were sentenced to hang. The others got life in prison; most were later pardoned. #ALPLM

On #IndependenceDay, read all about the rare American flag now on display at the museum. It has 21 stars because Illinois was the 21st state, and it was made before people had decided whether the flag's top stripe should be red or white. #ILhistory.

Mary Owens, once engaged to Lincoln, died #OnThisDay in 1877. Her gravestone reads “Abraham Lincoln’s Other Mary.” She once said, “Lincoln was deficient in those little links which make up the great chain of womans happiness.” #ALPLM #AbrahamLincoln

We value #AbrahamLincoln documents for their history. Still, it’s interesting to see that Sotheby’s recently sold two Lincoln-signed documents: the Emancipation Proclamation for $4.4 milion and the 13th Amendment for $13.7 million. Details:
