Devastating news. Helen was fierce and sassy and full of energy and hilarious- it’s unimaginable that she’s no longer here. She touched so many of us even though we didn’t know her real name, or see her face. Her personality came through in droves. Her videos on her bike ../1

CA leg needs to run this kind of analysis every time they pass a housing law. ⤵️ It’s one thing to take 2 steps forward, 1 back, but if they’re taking 2 back for every 1 forward…
So if I want to turn 3 2-bed units into 10 2-bed units: - 3 will need to be deed restricted affordable (1.258m reduction in value) and - I'll need to pay $241,674 in relocation fees.

I am of the controversial opinion that it should focus on solving CA’s challenges—from cost of housing, to homelessness, finishing CAHSR, & attracting both residents & businesses to our cities. Enough theatrics. Best counter to Trump is to make CA a paragon of good governance.

LA Metro presentation on experience with tunneling over the years. Initial issues with B Line construction: tar leakage, sinkholes, fire, taxpayer revolt. Recent tunnels need to deal with methane zones, ice-age fossils, oil wells, building foundations, robbery tunnels, etc.
June 2024 presentation on tunnel anomalies LA Metro’s D Line Extension Section 1. They used magnetometer to “see” 7 feet ahead of tunneling machines, steered machines to avoid a likely abandoned oil well, and needed to hand mine and remove steel beams at San Vicente/Wilshire.

Manufactured scarcity, esp in regard to housing, is a losing play. Instead, Dems should put our values into practice via an abundance agenda: build the housing & transit & do the hard work of getting back to the kitchen table & focus on noticeably improving people’s lives.

Someone needs to do a legal challenge against fees that are a percentage of project value. These fees should reflect the actual costs to review the project
Ever wonder why housing is so expensive? Our plan check fee doesn't actually cover the cost if plan check. Each dept has their own fee added on top. For instance, LAFD charges 0.111% of the entire project valuation to review plans. For us, that's ~$11,000.
