“School is really just a bad video game.”. Let’s give the curriculum to game designers. We have a professional class with decades of experience keeping engagement and growth in balance. They don’t have degrees in Education — they solve problems empirically and iterate endlessly.
@garberchov The tricky part is that mastery leads to future engagement. You have to scaffold things down so quick wins happen early, but not so far down that those wins feel meaningless. Game designers get this right. School is really just a bad video game.

“What did you get done this weekend?”. 66.6666666% done
@ClintFix Well I have a "nobody's using that one" bike in the cousins' cabin and fresh mountain air to work with. We missed the Strider phase while sailing, so it's an "accelerated" training this weekend for all three! 🫣.

I imagine this is what it's like flying with @bscholl.
In an uber with 2yo. We just hit traffic. 2yo is saying (with complete earnestness and frustration) “why slow, I wanna go faster, I wanna go faster” x100 and uber driver is losing it.

This is “Catch Me If You Can” for people who prefer the command line.
PSA: there’s a guy named Soham Parekh (in India) who works at 3-4 startups at the same time. He’s been preying on YC companies and more. Beware. I fired this guy in his first week and told him to stop lying / scamming people. He hasn’t stopped a year later. No more excuses.

"This isn’t some ordinary certification program or glorified internship." 🔥 I expect we'll see many more companies moving upstream to shape (and sometimes deliver) education directly.
Two weeks ago, I announced the American Tech Fellowship, @PalantirTech’s effort to find and unleash the American patriots who will create the AI age. Today, I’m pleased to introduce the inaugural class of American Tech Fellows. More than 500 applied. Thirty-eight were chosen.
