It's interesting to note that Gen Z was the most opposed to the AI moratorium. We are staring at this stuff straight on, and it's horrifying. The technology is sucking young people in, and they don't like it.

What's going on here? My hypothesis is that users (1) don't take their usage seriously, and so don't consider simulation as counting as a real partner. (2) they are probably a bit embarrassed.

The vast majority of young adults, when asked, say they don't want an AI romantic partner. Only 7% say they are open to it. But a 25-30% of young adults say they've used AI to simulate a romantic partner.

This isn't to say that churches and community don't matter. @Jpdegance and Communio are doing excellent work building lively marriage cultures at the parish level. But we can use many tools! We can work on the cultural side and build a pro-marriage, pro-baby economy.

What's more is that both of these op-eds argue what we really need is cultural change, not policy, since policy hasn't worked. But their critique actually works better against them: conservatives have been focusing on the culture wars (and excluding policy) from the beginning!.

Pakaluk critiques pronatalist policy in France bc it did not bring an above-replacement birth rate. But totally reversing the decline is not the measure of a successful policy. A good pronatal policy might just slow down the decline, and that's worth pursuing.

Recent oped by Matthew Hennessey in the WSJ, with another from @CRPakaluk, argue against government intervention for promoting fertility, e.g. larger child tax credits. Why? These policies haven't completely reversed the fertility decline. But this critique misses the mark.

The A.I. moratorium has strong opposition from all age groups, but young voters (18-34) oppose the moratorium by a staggering 7-to-1 margin. No surprise considering young adults are the most affected by these technologies.

Breaking it down by age group, we see that younger voters are the most opposed to the A.I. moratorium. American voters ages 18-34 oppose the moratorium by a margin of 7-to-1. This is remarkable considering young Americans use A.I. more than any other group, and will be the most

Opposition to the A.I. moratorium is bipartisan. The plurality of Trump voters are opposed to the provision, with a 21 percentage point advantage over support.
