. @ccianet’s argument in a nutshell: #BigTech has a constitutional right to contract with minors outside of their parents’ purview. Contracts signed by minors are unenforceable, but the app stores, including Apple’s and Google’s, make all users – including children – sign a
SB2420, Texas’s app store law, violates the #FirstAmendment several times over. It also usurps parental rights, substituting the state’s preferences for parents’ judgments while also burdening parents with app-by-app and purchase-by-purchase intervention. Read more:

This is so bad it's barely worth a tweet. ASAA is about contract law, not content moderation. "Impedes commerce"? Since when do companies have an absolute right to contract with minors without parental consent?
Today, CCIA sued Texas over its unconstitutional mobile app store law, SB2420, the “App Store Accountability Act.” This sweeping measure would restrict access to lawful content, compel speech, invade user privacy, and impede commerce. More here: https://t.co/6trNDojYZK

But the future will come down to one thing: whose voice matters more to Congress: Big Tech or the American people? The bottom line? Congress has a winning strategy if it wants one.

Far from being a lightning rod and source of division, AI policy — if done the way Americans want — could be a vehicle for unity and bipartisanship. Congress and the White House have a clear and winning strategy, if they opt to take advantage of it.

And they continue to do so, despite the mountain of AI-related harms to minors continues to grow. https://t.co/Hla4NiFoqh
Zuckerberg & his friends at Meta rejected my invitation to appear before the Senate and answer for the harms caused by their AI chatbots. So I gave the floor to the brave parents of chatbot victims. Thank you for revealing the ugly truth about profit-loving Big Tech

And yet, some R Senators are pushing for moratoria and so-called "sandboxes" under the banner of national security to stop states from regulating AI. And this, AFTER a similar moratorium measure suffered resounding defeat in a 99-1 Senate vote this summer.

We also found that 90% of Americans - of all ages, incomes, and political convictions - believe Americans should have the right to sue an AI company “if its products contributed to harms such as suicide, sexual exploitation, psychosis, or addiction in their child.”

In a new @FamStudies poll, conducted in partnership with YouGov, we found that an overwhelming majority of Americans, including 89% of Trump voters, want Congress to prioritize protecting children and families from AI harms over growing the tech industry.

Contrary to what debates on Capitol Hill may suggest, Americans are deeply united on what they believe should be done to govern artificial intelligence. 🧵

"Innovation must not come at the cost of our children's lives, or anyone's life. Our children are not experiments. They're not data points or profit centers. They are human beings with minds and souls that cannot simply be reprogrammed once they are harmed."

Compelling and deeply disheartening stories from parents shared today at the Senate Judiciary hearing. What can be done to prevent these harms from AI chatbots? Here are several ideas for Congress:

IFS surveyed 2,000 Americans on tech regulation and A.I. safety. Looks like protecting children and regulating tech companies is an extremely popular, bipartisan stance. 🧵

Is there anything - ANYTHING - Big Tech won’t do for a quick buck? Now we learn Meta’s chatbots were programmed to carry on explicit and “sensual” talk with 8 year olds. It’s sick. I’m launching a full investigation to get answers. Big Tech: Leave our kids alone

"[R]esilient AI governance requires America to lean into federalism, not abandon it in the name of 'efficiency.' That is why states must continue to act as 'laboratories of democracy'— to test ideas, refine standards, and learn from failure." @wesghodges @RealDCochrane

Human flourishing requires deliberate policy choices. And the admin still has time to invest in efforts to that end. (The A.I. bus has not (entirely) left the station.) But American families and youth cannot kept being told, "Tomorrow." They need action, too.
