My alternative to “I do, we do, you do”: Create the conditions (context, # choice, problem type) for S’s to show you their understanding, question them to solidify or extend, facilitate share out of S’s ideas, and finally I DO (if you really need to tell them, wait til the end)

Introduce students to transformations with this quick warm-up activity. For each one, students need another type of transformation to match up the shapes. In a live class, pacing could be fun with this! @desmosclassroom @MathigonOrg @Amplify

Hey #adultedu lots of great ideas here for teaching students having trouble solving equations (and maybe you have some ideas for the original poster)
Teacher friends who teach freshmen/middle school math... I have so much newfound respect for you 😅 I feel like a lot of my freshmen are overwhelmed with trying to solve equations, and it's been hard to figure out how to break it down more 😭 Advice welcome!! #mtbos #iteachmath

Friends- both capitalism and cancer are terrible. My neighbor Deb is facing tough times. She and family are good neighbors. If you can spare a little to support Deb and her family it would be money well spent. If you can repost this, I appreciate that too.

What would happen if migrants on boats with limited resources were also seen as brave explorers gifted with curiosity and wonder for depths unknown, I wonder.

I made this illustration based on some fun Eid traditions we do in this special day. A little thread:

The city "assumes" that encampment enclosures have cost a million dollars, with that estimate only taking into account 8 of them. Even setting aside the absurd cruelty, when we say it's cheaper just to house people, we're not lying: it would be pennies on the dollar
Literally, the city of minneapolis: let’s just assume we’ve done 8 encampment evictions since May 2020.

It's not ok to spread your colds and other "Not Covid" around. Wear a mask if you have respiratory symptoms and have to be around others or in spaces that others will also use after you leave. The old normal was disgusting. Do better.

Does anyone know of a pacing guide that has one of these characteristics: - choose your own adventure (on a bigger scale than just skipping a lesson here or there) - focuses on big ideas, strategies, and models (multiple-grades) rather than just standards (single grade)

@Sneffleupagus @LaraMathcalf If models are used well, students should be observing as models are being changed to make equivalent fractions and verbalizing it like, "When you make 1/2 into 2/4, the number of equal parts in the whole are doubled which also doubles the number of shaded parts."

This is your reminder that in 2015, #LakeithSmith (a 15-year-old), was sentenced to 65 years in prison for the death of his friend who was murdered by an Alabama police officer. Lakeith is now 23, still in prison, & yes- you read the first sentence correctly.
