A peer mentoring campaign for teens to share their personal stories and strategies with younger teens/tweens to support healthy engagement with tech & media
Joined October 2020
It was an honor for our #GoodforMEdia youth leaders to be able to share their ideas directly with leadership from the White House Kids Online Health and Safety Task Force at this important listening session hosted by @stanfordio & @StanfordSML with @stanfordyouthmh.
Many thanks to @Stanfordio for hosting @DavidsonNTIA, @DMulliganUCB and me for the WH Kids Online Health and Safety Task Force listening session. Thanks to all participants for the discussion on how we can promote online safety and well-being for youth.

So great to see our colleagues and fellow youth advocates highlighted for their incredible advocacy and impact! @RTyouthpower #designitforus #youthvoice.
Such a key point from our Core Team member @sneharevanur:. The emphasis on higher education or Hill experience for influencing public policy “diminishes the importance of the credentials that youth have, which is the credential of lived experience.”

"policymakers would be wise to take an approach that consults. opinions of young people. Doing so may provide a more thorough understanding of how social media. impacts kids and teens. and provide opportunities to empower young people to better use these tools. " @jrhuddles.
Currently proposed policy approaches to youth online safety are overly blunt tools that will cause more harm than good. @CatoPodcast #CatoTechnology

Solid recommendations from @CalPartnersProj 's youth-led focus groups, including 1) Invest in racially and ethnically diverse young women and girls to become tech and media company leaders and 2) Expand media literacy programming #youthvoice.
Do you have teens or young people in your life? Check out our new report, #SharedExperiences to learn more about the impact of social media and what policymakers and tech companies can do to prioritize child well-being. Download the report at

A great turnout for our youth-led event last Friday focused on confronting the moral panic around social media & #youthmentalhealth. Nearly 100 participants interacted with thoughtful prompts on designing online spaces and policies that honor #youthvoices.
This special event invites young people 18 and under from all backgrounds (in school and out), Stanford students, policymakers and other communities to re-design social media in ways that will prioritize and protect youth mental health. @goodformedia @stanfordyouthmh

Great to see our fellow youth advocates Aliza and @EmmaLembke of @technicallypoli on @_60Minutes sharing their stories to educate and inspire change.
“In 8th grade, after years and years of me pushing to get social media, my parents finally relented. And that year was the worst mental health year of my life.”. Given their own experiences, Emma Lembke & Aliza Kopans are lobbying to regulate social media.
