The chief of Pakistan's powerful Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) addressing a press conference in relation to the killing of Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya.
Never seen anything like this in my 17-year journalism career.
Just met Prime Minister Imran Khan. The PM House and almost everyone in there is active to the point of being manic.
He seemed surprisingly composed and calm.
Ch Nisar, along with the Jeep group, was rumoured to be a PM aspirant in a hung parliament - or if not then Punjab CM perhaps.
But this is what has happened to him...
"So their only hope, and because they are determined to get me out of the way…their whole charade of military courts is to imprison me," Khan said.
"I have absolutely no doubt that the military courts are meant for me."

Khan addressed his relationship with Pakistan’s current Army Chief Gen. Asim Munir when the general was the chief of the powerful intelligence service, the ISI, and he was prime minister - and says on record why Munir exited the spymaster role prematurely…
Have joined
@Reuters
as Pakistan Bureau Chief.
Excited to join a global family steeped so deeply in the journalistic tradition of speaking truth to power.
Hope to continue that legacy without fear or favour.
A serious question: Why are almost all major television channels in Pakistan showing a press conference by a Sindh provincial official while there's major news breaking in Islamabad and Lahore.
It's been on for a bit now.
I asked PM Imran Khan about the "Biden call" issue in an interaction. He said: "I keep hearing President Biden hasn’t called me. Well it's his option. If he wants to call or not it's his business if he thinks it's necessary or not. Not that I’m waiting for any phone call"

PTV covering a joint opp presser on efforts to put up a joint presidential candidate - that too in the heat of the contest.
While there’s still a way to go for PTV, this is a seismic change.
Been watching PTV last few days, and it has been consistent.
Take a bow,
@fawadchaudhry
Before becoming army chief in 2022, Gen Munir had been suddenly removed as ISI boss in 2019 while Khan was PM. No official reason given.
Khan acknowledged in the intvu that he had wanted him gone from the role
"Maybe he has a grudge because I asked him to resign…I don't know"

Have always maintained that this song and its lyrics are iconic. Doesn’t get the appreciation and recognition it deserves.
Here it is again.
And here we, as a country, are again.
On whether he would accept the result of the no-confidence vote against him, he said:
‘How can I accept the result when the entire process is discredited?’
"The country is at stake, why should I come late?" said 86-year-old Mumtaz, a housewife a decade older than Pakistan itself as she queued up in Islamabad.

The great tragedy of what happened today in North Waziristan is that the events cannot be discussed candidly nor reported openly to ascertain the facts independently.
The ‘facts’ will be narrated by one side.
We live in dark times.
Literally.
IK has the uncanny ability to get people to believe him. He’s mastered the earnest tone.
He’s become so good even many of his critics believed him when he said his govt would take a strong stand against the TLP protestors.

This campaign against Mohsin Dawar - an elected representative and a progressive voice - is so blatant it is funny.

Pathetic.

No such action against questioning civilian leaders/bureaucrats by the same judge
Amazing how Shahbaz Sharif so feverishly sought the resignation of Law Minister Zahid Hamid (when it clearly wasn’t his fault) to avoid a ‘law an order situation’ and ‘instability’ caused by a dharna.
He himself refused to resign during the months-long dharna on Model Town
Remarkable.
Despite the passage of 70 days since the conviction of Axact/Bol owner Shoaib Shaikh, there has been no attempt to arrest him.
Court handed him a 7-year jail sentence in July.
Impunity on steroids
He also makes an apparent thinly-veiled reference to the current chief of the ISI ('a man who was recently posted to Islamabad' who is 'trying to make the army chief happy') as the man behind such moves to target his party.
Murad Saeed is a perfect exponent of the sort of hollow rhetoric that forces people not take PTI’s claims seriously (more so these days than before).
Crazed eyes, little thought, and a knack of throwing around fabricated statistics.

Above all, I condemn the unwillingness of journalists and managements of different houses to get get together and push back against this.

Economically this is a challenging time for Pakistan; I want to encourage the govt to stick to its programme of macroeconomic reform to swiftly conclude the 9th review of the IMF programme>>
He said he had issues with the way Munir was running the country’s top spy agency, and had asked him to resign.
"He shouldn't have issues with that now because he is the army chief," Khan said, referring to Munir's removal as ISI head. "So why would he harbour that grudge?"
