Chrome is hot garbage.
A long time ago it was a snappy rebel browser that took the Internet by storm.
Today it's worse than IE ever was, tracking your browsing habits and sharing them with advertisers even if you take efforts to protect your privacy. It's all out-out too.
lol for one of my
#opensource
projects, an
#infosec
employee at
@EpicGames
emailed me this questionnaire with over 100 questions and wants me to fill it out so *they* can use my freely available open source software.
No.
Initial findings with the
@LinusTech
screwdriver:
1. It has a very thin shaft (compared to other ratchets, not normal drivers lol), good for tight spaces
2. Good hand-feel for the ratchet, though this adds a tiny bit to runout (worse for some types of work)

The Raspberry Pi 5 is 2.5x faster than the Pi 4 (sometimes more!), and I have the FULL rundown — let me walk you through it in this thread.

This is the coolest book I've seen in years. Fascinating look inside hundreds of circuits, switches, and mechanical electronic devices that I've never seen before. Open Circuits from No Starch Press.

The
#Eclipse
was absolutely stunning. Here's a composite with all my images. Couldn't have asked for better

.
Also got to meet
@smartereveryday
in southern MO. Photos w/ Sony a6600 on tripod at 350mm, f/8 (except for totality), using a Celestron filter.
I can confirm that yes, in fact,
@Raspberry_Pi
4 are being produced. And all the other models too! I see the light at the end of the tunnel... and I saw the robots on the production line, too! (Video will come soon-ish. I have SO much footage to process!)

Another
@redhat
employee (who labeled me as a clickbait influencer) tried to pull a "gotcha" saying I "personally benefit immensely" from AWX, citing my YouTube video.
I made $500 from that video. And I wrote the literal AWX Operator Red Hat maintains.
I've had a Microsoft Account (ugh) for over a decade.
I just tried creating an 'App' within Azure. But when I signed in, I found my account is owned by the school my daughter attends (for one year).
Somehow that school has adopted my MS account?!
WTH!
@Rainmaker1973
blocked me after I asked him to delete a post of MY video on X by someone who ripped it off TikTok.
I didn't want to have to do it, but if
@elonmusk
's platform is this bad at protecting its creators I'll work up a little more action.
Red Hat: Rebuilders contribute n̶o̶ ̶v̶a̶l̶u̶e̶ negative net value to RHEL. Contribute to CentOS Stream!
Rebuilder
@AlmaLinux
: okay we'll build off CentOS Stream. [Proceeds to submit patch to Fedora + Stream for a CVE against iperf3]
Red Hat: No, not like that!
Guess who's back...
Back again...
It's not a great thing most of the ER and nursing staff remembers me from all my visits this year. This time I'm in for an infection. Three days so far, not sure when I'll get home.

What I hate most about Red Hat's response is they call anyone who wants CentOS a freeloader, when:
1. There's nothing morally wrong about being a user of OSS without contributing.
2. Almost all RH employees, contributors, an (former, now) advocates I know have relied on CentOS.
Red Hat's response:
So... it *was* all about the "freeloaders". Can people stop telling me that this whole thing wasn't about freeloaders now?
#redhat
#opensource
Also... thank you *so* much to
@nicklmg
for his behind-the-scenes efforts. I hope
@linusgsebastian
gives him and the rest of the LTT crew a nice break after all the backpack/screwdriver/whale-lan/popup/drama stuff ;)
Especially those poor souls crushed under support ticket load!
I love freeloaders. So freeload my book, please! No, seriously, grab a free copy and learn to automate with Ansible!
The book's text is even open source (CC BY-SA), so if you wanna republish it and make money on it, be my guest!
@LinusTech
3. Bit holder is a bit tight brand new. Takes at least 50-100 cycles before bit holder feels 'right' coming out
4. I like the selector going right-for-right spin, left-for-left spin. That's opposite most ratchets but whether you like it is personal preference

Just shut down over 80 servers for a service that I started when I had just finished college and ran for over 1,000 customers over 14 years.
End of a personal era there, but it was a great journey that taught me a LOT about business/infra/support/architecture through a decade.
Tired: telling everyone you can get a used mini PC that's faster than a Raspberry Pi
Wired: realizing Raspberry Pis aren't impossible to buy at MSRP anymore, and that they have different use cases than old x86 thin clients
I'm here till 9 lol
Red Hat: those who use open source code and don't contribute back are "a real threat to open source companies everywhere"
I call them: users.
I fight for the users.
This morning, RH folks are jumping in DMs, comments, etc. spreading two falsehoods:
1. "Ansible was proprietary and Red Hat open sourced it" (AWX was, NOT Ansible lol)
2. "CentOS Stream should be a great replacement for CentOS, why don't you just accept that?!"
Apparently this week they dropped the Google Workspace Business Standard plan from 1TB shared pool to 30GB.
That's a *97%* decrease in storage space for $6/month.
Apparently I can get back to 2TB if I double the spend at $12/month.
Time to look at another option.
I thought my Google Workspace had 1TB of storage space but suddenly I'm getting warnings I'm over quota with 300 GB of files in there... saying I only have 30 GB.
Did Google change its paid plan to only include 30 GB this year?
I recommend Firefox, Safari, or (gasp!) even Edge instead.
Those browsers don't try to work around any privacy-preserving steps I take to protect myself online.
@LinusTech
5. Feel is great, balance is good, but it's less pleasing to flip in one hand than my old Stanley drivers (flipping doesn't matter to everyone though)
6. Knurling is as good as or better than the rest of the drivers I'm testing, convenient for one-hand use

Boy, I didn't wake up this morning thinking I'd go from "I hope
@RedHat
does better next time" to "I might have to actually stop promoting
@ansible
too",
but... here we are.
Please help me out.
I'm trying to rope

Day 4 post op: I completed hospital objectives and am home!
I did a very weak dance (squatted and stood up a few times acting like I was dancing)... and that's not the smartest idea lol
But spirits are up, resting a lot now. Thank you so much for prayers & support!

And I'm *STILL* being told to stop using the term "freeloaders" 🤯
Mike McGrath, VP of Core Platforms, admitted it's the internal term used to refer to
@rocky_linux
,
@AlmaLinux
, and other downstream CentOS-like distributions.
I get to go home today! Antibiotics have been successful, and my pulse is down to a reasonable 65 from 120 resting rate. My ol' ticker appreciated not having to fight off a big infection!
I also learned about belly buttons: Surgeons avoid them because they don't heal up nice.
Oh shoot, I *completely forgot*
@redhat
had promised to keep the Git sources public back in 2020!
It looks like they have, indeed, fooled me twice.
h/t to
@JayTheLinuxGuy
and this article
Oh hey, what's that you're playing with today?
Yes, it's going on the Pi. 48 GB of VRAM. And a USB-C port.
One of those two things is accessible on the Pi.
The deeper I go into the Home Assistant ecosystem, the more I like it, and the more I despise the "app for every device" way most people (and device makers) do it.
2nd day post-op: can walk around the entire floor but it's tiring. I have 14 staples holding me closed up, no wonder it hurts when I move!
Otherwise, signs are positive, I think I may be released tomorrow to recover at home.
Not looking forward to dressing changes though!

Something I find ironic... my desktop computer is about 4x faster with 8x more RAM than my mobile phone.
And yet, Discord takes about 5x longer to start on my desktop than my phone.
I long for the days of IRC

I am doing okay but have to do a small procedure and will hopefully be better tomorrow.
I deleted my most recent post; I have had a few days where I almost put the Red Hat stuff behind and focused only on positive things...
I don't want to antagonize folks like Mike McGrath, I don't understand the business decisions behind Red Hat's moves, and I've found the two…
This thread highlights (a) the stressful production schedule problem (which
@GamersNexus
highlighted too), and (b) some sexist behaviors that need to be stomped out in tech spheres (well, everywhere, but for some reason it seems to persist more in tech).
To stop the speculation and DM's I am receiving.
I chose to quit my role at LTT because it, and the working environment I was facing, were ruining my mental health.
The number of daily items the Social media role at the time was expected to fill was incredibly high.
For the first time in about 8 years, I got lab test results back... and every single number is in the 'green' (OK) range.
2023, comeback year for my
