The biggest barrier to trying a custom CPU? Installing the toolchain. Nobody wants to git clone and build complex binaries just to test a small ISA. So for my CPU (Mrav), I moved the tooling into the browser. I wrote the assembler in Go. Using WASM, I run the exact same logic

Originally a $25 4GB board design. Now the LPDDR4X alone is $40 🤣. Lots of projects will be delayed until LP DRAM goes back to normal.

$56 for a 2GB DDR4 RAM chip that was $2 last year. 🤪 on the spot market with 2700% returns.

LP4 prices are truly through the roof. We were quoted more than $30 for 32Gb (4GB). DRAM significantly more than AP. 4GB SBCs < $50 will be rare birds.

After months of testing and tweaking, I'm extremely happy to finally show off https://t.co/Iy5qUEbTKn to the world! 🥹 80 boards are available now, and more are on the way. List by benchmark, SBC vendor, or SoC vendor/model 📊 Lots still to do, but let me know what you think 🥰

EtherealOS has a built-in auto deploy feature. We're adding documentation for it now. It leverages all the other infrastructure built into the firmware.

It's only been a month since EtherealOS was released and now we support unmodified upstream Fedora, OpenSUSE, Debian, and Ubuntu along side our images. The most amazing part is that all of those distros work out of the box without any modification.

Ubuntu stands out as the only major distribution that does not support ARM64 UEFI booting. Instead they create non-scalable per board images. Between snaps and this, think twice about adopting Ubuntu for any serious work.

Microcontrollers deployed today will probably be the biggest security risk in a decade. ESP32 is going to be infamous.

We really like some ARM hardware designs and want to use them for fun, but just deploying the software is a test of our patience.
