@hackney_cycling I listened to the livestream. Seems like this junction design has been heavily influenced by a retired councillor who doesn’t believe in bike infra. The qualified engineer said ‘this is the kind of scheme we drew up 20 years ago.’ Is Hackney looking backwards or forwards?

New Tory policy: 18 year olds will have to do either year-long army placement or one weekend volunteering. Cake or death?

Great news!
NEW: I’m delighted to launch Hackney’s first-ever dedicated Secondary School Street at Clapton Girls Academy. Hackney now has 52 School Streets and an ambitious plan to reach every secondary school before 2026 @HackneyCouncil ✌🏾🌍

I was in court for the latest stage in the sentencing of a hit-and-run driver who killed a young mother as she cycled home. The CCTV of the incident was horrifying. The victim impact statements from her widower and sister will stay with me forever.

Gao Gao died after she was hit by a driver speeding at almost 50mph in a 20mph residential street in Hackney as she cycled home

CYCLEWAY 1 UPDATE: Things have happened! Its been a slog but we're grateful to @IslingtonBC @hackneycouncil for making the bridge closure diversion a little bit safer this winter with new bus lane on Balls Pond Rd (@networkrail funded), which we hope benefits bus users too. 1/5

Meanwhile, in France, the transport minister says that for the first time in the country's history, there will be no new studies of motorway projects. The road budget will be reduced and more spent on rail and other public transport.

Italy is a similar size to the UK and its high speed rail (HSR) network has helped slash domestic flights. Arguing that the UK doesn't need or can't afford HSR doesn't stand up to scrutiny. We need public transport alternatives to short haul flights and long car journeys.
Ever wondered what Italian high-speed trains are like? After last week's trip to Italy, here is the best (I hope) guide you'll find to using Trenitalia's excellent Frecciarossas: https://t.co/gfcWV6vDKU

I'm distraught about this awful, avoidable collision. A woman was cycling in my neighbourhood & never made it home. This road was resurfaced by @hackneycouncil using cycling budget with NO reduction in traffic despite @hackney_cycling & others calls for Whiston Rd to be filtered.
Literally outside our flat. Maybe this will finally make @hackneycouncil and @TfL do something about the absolute idiots that thunder along Whiston Road all damn day and night. @HackneyAbbott @hackneygreens

Back home after 950km of cycling in 27 days (if only I'd realised we were close to 1000km!). Average 35km per day even counting non cycling days at theme parks and beaches. Proud of the 3 kids for the achievment. Thanks for navigational help @ridebeeline

Day 6: Nice swim in the lake before a shorter ride to an Airbnb in Colombes (which happens to be a very nicely set out LTN with lovely square that used to be a parking lot), a suburb of Paris. Into the city tomorrow!

Day 5: Carefully planned route to avoid busy roads, which meant a climb up some stoney routes (kids didn't like that) & single track decline (my trailer didn't like that). Puncture #1 on the side of another busy road - Chapeau to the driver for stopping to give us water.
