It’s a very sad day when the UN High Commissioner •for• Refugees celebrates a deal that codifies illegal refugee detention and allows states to buy their way out of protection obligations.
After years of deadlock, today's agreement by EU ambassadors is one step closer towards adopting the EU Migration and Asylum Pact — a framework which will hopefully allow the EU to better protect people fleeing conflict and persecution in a way that works for states and refugees.
