The past two days, we've run two heartbreaking stories about the civil war in Ethiopia. They are difficult to listen to, but try. As much as possible, we tried to stay out of the politics. Here's why. 1/
The politics -- and the justification -- of this conflict are incredibly complex. And in a country as divided as Ethiopia, they are the subject of intense -- and valid -- debate. As journalists, we tend to see the grey area in everything all the time. 2/
This debate is no different. But as we spoke to dozens of people -- from the border with Sudan east all the way to Mekelle -- over months of war, there was one thing we could say without qualification: Innocent civilians are being raped and killed, their lives destroyed. 3/
So these two stories are simple. They are just an attempt to document a small bit of the pain and suffering that the people of Tigray are going through. 4/4

You did a great job in shedding light on the painful humanitarian crisis in
#Tigray
. In similar conflicts such as
#Tigray
, promoting political debate through deliberate neglect of human suffering is tantamount to condoning suffering as a legitimate strategy for political ends.
@eyderp
@NuNuWako
This is very sad.
#TPLFisaTerroristGroup
is solely responsible for all this mess. The media don't want to see the cause of the conflict, but the consequences.
@eyderp
Where have you been from 1991 - 2021? The result of the TPLF implementation of Ethnic Federalism. They calculated wrong with the mastermind Melese Zenawi. They turn many Tigrays into spying on other ethnicities. Now their trap got them. UR story is paid for by z orphans of TPLF.
@eyderp
I am big fun of NPR and your usage of word about the ongoing crisis in northern Ethiopia is not Accurate and I believe someone from NPR office will take notice of your judgment! It’s not “Civil war” if you describe what is exactly happening be professional than propagandist.
@eyderp
Any suffering of civilians in conflict area is heartbreaking. However, there should be context included on how this conflict began and at a minimum vet the translation of Tigrinya to English before airing (ex: 9 days is not a month.... )...what else wasn’t vetted before airing?
@eyderp
This is excruciatingly painful 😥. What’s the solution it’s been over Six month listening killings , raping & looting . Stop searching solution for the western , let us try it in our ways via elders ,religious institutions .....

Putting the disclaimer "we tried to stay out of the politics" clearly indicates you're playing along with politics of the conflict. No such conflict can be removed from the politics driving it. A lot of Western media reporting on Tigray is patently political.
