Pals, I have a new (old) book out: “Why Beer Matters and Other Essays” is the original Amazon bestseller, its followup “The Meanings of Craft Beer,” plus some of my fave pieces on beer from @VinePair & @goodbeerhunting — all for the first time in print. 1/

Father's Day: My dad died twenty-eight years ago next month, and so I have been without someone to wish a "happy Father's Day" to in person almost as long as I had someone to wish that to, which is a very strange thought, since every passing year I feel more and more his son.

I’m genuinely sorry about this place. It was a big part of my life for many years, and I hate what it turned into. Plenty of people I love are no longer here. But quite a few still are. I’m torn. I don’t want the jerks to win. But I don’t want to hang out with jerks, either. 1/X

Some new work out today for @goodbeerhunting. In this new feature, @zythophiliac tells the fascinating story of Prize Old Ale and its rebirth under @darkstarbrewco. https://t.co/PpKwbP5AEi

The 2023 batch, produced at @MeantimeBrewing, comes from the fourth brewery to make Prize Old Ale. In 2022, Martyn Cornell covered Prize Old Ale’s move to its third brewery, @Darkstarbrewco, for @Pellicle — a piece that is definitely worth reading: https://t.co/rbRjoU1hgX

U.K. beer fans, the 2023 edition of Prize Old Ale goes on sale Nov. 16. Learn how it came about, including its move to Meantime, and how this year’s contribution was made (No. 2 invert sugar, yes / Maris Otter, no) in @zythophiliac’s latest: https://t.co/LIrMFRKTcQ

The beer in the jug is a deep, deep brown, so dark it is almost black. Half of it was brewed only two months ago; the other half is a melange of different brewings, in three different breweries, with...

Last month @ChopinVodka announced a limited release, 30-year-old spirit for $3,000. You can also pre-order whiskey that will be aged in space for a bit more. For @VinePair, I wrote about premiumization & inflation, with kind help from @BourbEnthusiasm. https://t.co/h8jsoHQNz0

Tito’s Vodka is the best-selling vodka brand in the country, both nearly ubiquitous and fairly affordable, if not exactly cheap, at around $22 for a 750-milliliter bottle. But if, like many people,...

The best part about having a monthly column is trying to sneak stuff past my editor, @timmckirdy. Usually he catches it... but this month I managed to get half a line from @50cent into this article about whiskey. https://t.co/GusXvbpY7c Better luck next time, Tim!🥃🎵

Powdered peat. Pelletized peat. Smokeless peat, used raw on finished whiskey. For VinePair, I talked to distillers in Ireland, Scotland, Washington and Minnesota about what makes their local peat unique, and the new techniques they’re using.

Peat character is nearly synonymous with distilling in Scotland, where some 20 percent of the country is covered by peat bogs. Unsurprisingly, most Scotch whiskies include at least a hint of smoked...

For a feature, I urgently need a comment from a #winemaker who's invested in finding solutions to rising alcohol levels in #wine particularly if said solutions (also) involve the use of #yeast species and strains that develop lower levels of ethanol 🍇🍷 #journorequest
