Postdoc Fellow @HURI_Harvard researching civil society, protest & war - mostly in Ukraine & Belarus. Prev @nyujordancenter @HarrimanInst @SociologyOxford
Mostly NYC, sometimes Oxford
Joined October 2014
I recently wrote about my research in Ukraine for the @HarrimanInst magazine. The piece focuses on the wartime engagement on people from Bakhmut, who continue to resist despite losing so much. Their stories are important. Please give it a read/share. 1/.

Read that again. Russia's strike on the Dnipro region today damaged dozens of schools, medical institutions, and a passenger train. I cannot with western memes making jokes about WW3 starting, as if forgetting Ukrainians (& others!) have been enduring years of war and terror.
Russian massive midday attack on Dnipropetrovsk region has killed so far 11 people and injured 160 people in Dnipropetrovsk and Samar. In Dnipropetrovsk alone, damages reported in 19 schools, 10 kindergartens, a vocational school, a music school, three after-school

A lot of awful things happened whilst I've been taking an 'X' break. But 1 piece of good news - the release of Siarhei Tsikhanouskyi, after 5+ years in prison in Belarus for running for president. Reunited with his family & straight to campaigning for other prisoners ❤️🤍.
I can see what prison did to Siarhei. The weight he lost—the pain. But I also see the fire in his eyes. He didn’t ask for rest today—he wants to continue the fight. That’s how I know him. And that’s why we keep going. For everyone still behind bars. For a free Belarus.

A really powerful piece of reporting on the Guardian's virtual front page today. The horror of what Viktoriia endured in russian captivity, as a result of her own investigations into russian crimes . words fail me.

The Guardian, working with media partners, has tracked down first-hand accounts to reconstruct Viktoriia Roshchyna’s final months

Cool work by @APavliuc!."Men’s communications concentrated on military & diplomatic narratives while those of women focused on civilian trauma & RU war crimes but contained no calls for compromise, disproving Western theories that women are more pacifist".
