Is 'The West' at war with Russia? Ask two questions: Has The West firmly stated that it is politically opposed to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and wishes to see it fail? Is it in the interest of future West European security to see Russia be defeated in Ukraine? 1/11

Has anyone seen any calculations about what lifting the two child cap will do in the real world of unintended consequences? What will happen at the margins?

I can say that after a week on the US west coast the UK and Europe are regarded as humiliatingly irrelevant to global innovation.
UK Innovation Is Bleeding To Death: The House of Lords Science & Tech Committee just dropped a brutal 2025 report: “We’re world-class at inventing… and world-class at losing it.” - DeepMind? London-born. Google’s now. - Arm? Cambridge chip genius. SoftBank owned. -

A succinct analysis from @MarkUrban01
I've been talking to BBC insiders about why the Director General resigned and whether the talk of a 'coup' has any basis - here's my latest

BOXER is not a WARRIOR replacement. ARES is not a WARRIOR replacement. None of the two meets threshold definition for Armoured Infantry. This is either a stop-gap followed by a IFV buy in DiP, or it's a lie. There is no kind way to say it. There never was, never will be.

…but to get to this point after Russia invaded Ukraine has taken as long as the USA was in WW2. We need to look at our adaptability and decision-making.
Important milestone: NATO now producing more ammo than Russia. This news from this week is very important for long-term NATO security. Strength is now the best guarantor of future peace in Europe, and this war has shown how critical ammo is and how fast it can be used up.

Given the Government’s assessments on these matters, has any local MP come out and made a statement?
Yesterday we came out in our thousands in Birmingham to demand the end of all sporting ties with Israel, a state that has committed genocide in the Gaza Strip & enforces a system of apartheid and illegal military occupation of Palestinian territory. Israeli sports cannot be

This Guardian piece, asking why no one is protesting Man City whose owners the UAE are implicated in the massacres of Sudan, ironically kind of gets it… ‘The other explanation is that there is a heavily codified set of beliefs out there that only faces one way. A lot of people

Two midweek matches in England had a backdrop of war and geopolitics, but only one drew large protests

Couldn’t agree more; critical thinking over critical theory…
Once a political class abandons first-principles reasoning, it very quickly starts legislating for the world it wishes existed rather than the one we actually live in. Decline then becomes self-reinforcing. That has been the story of UK energy policy since 2008. It is why we

When you are faced with humbling stories it is a good time to reflect on priorities and assumptions.
Rick Clement lost both legs in Afghanistan after stepping on an IED. Doctors once told him he might never walk again — but Rick proved them wrong, using prosthetic legs to lay a wreath. This Remembrance Sunday, he will be at the Cenotaph with Blesma to pay his respects.

Jaguar QWI course targeting lesson #1. Hit the factories, then the LoC, only in extremis the forces in contact.
Very interesting report worth reading. This I found particularly interesting and perhaps relevant to UK LMP. Also, the need for LofC engineers and protection - again an old lesson being relearned.

This is troubling. One can legitimately point out to @NJ_Timothy that this state of being arose under a Conservative administration. However, the attitudes displayed here to a Birmingham born, Aston Villa season-ticket holder betray that we are living in two imagined countries.
I went to watch my boyhood club Aston Villa last night. Over 700 police officers deployed. The mob outside the ground were calling for the death of Jews - and the Government let it happen.

On a like-for-like basis, France spends 15-20% less than us on kit, and gets far more, quicker. And on the same basis of calculations, Italy spends 25-30% less, than the UK, and has similar outcomes to France. WHERE. HAS. THE. MONEY. GONE?

@PaulEmbery @RobertJenrick Completely agree. The expansion of profanity in both the written & spoken word typifies the coarsening of our public life & debate. If we want public figures to maintain standards in public life, then swearing is the 'broken window' through which other transgressions will flow.

In the small hours of June 6 1944, Jim Booth in midget submarine X-23 lay one mile off Sword Beach. A couple of hours before the landings began, the craft surfaced and started “flashing”, acting as a beacon for the invasion force to aim for. He died aged 101 in 2022.

“They’re either fat slobbering rednecks in klan hoods, or mustache-twirling robber barons manipulating the rednecks for profit. Her mental models of them are less complex than her mental model of a squirrel.”
The thing you have to remember about this woman and those like her is that she genuinely doesn’t know that anyone disagrees with her basic worldview. She doesn’t even see it as a worldview. It’s just the obvious truth. Of course she knows abstractly that half the country voted
