Just did a lingular segmentectomy using technique of inflating lingual while deflating rest of LUL for demarcation. I learned this from a video by a now Houston, formerly Mayo, well known chest surgeon. We don’t have the fluorescing dye though (too expensive). @ShandaBlackmon.

One of the pioneers of transplantation surgery/immunosuppression has passed: I remember the respect Starzl had for his work. Hugely impactful clinical introduction of cyclosporine.

The new valves are even more expensive. They are successfully pushing the same tripe for TAVR valves to very receptive cardiologists.

I find it amazing that more and more cardiac surgeons are replacing the time-tested (over 30 years of data) Perimount/Magna bioprosthetic valve with the much more expensive Inspiris simply on the company’s promise that it has better in vivo durability with ZERO data.

Many cherished times during my @UMichCTSurgery training days. Breakfast at Angelo’s was one of them. #Grateful to the Vangelatos family for the memories.

I signed up for Twitter Blue so I could post this, as if there’s anyone who deserves more than 280 characters, it’s Jon S. Thompson. Dr. Thompson teaches us better than anyone that not all surgical giants fit the stereotype. In his 42 years of practice here at UNMC, he created a
