This is a great summary of a concept surgical educators have discussed for years. If it doesn't have the design or rigidity to be a high-stakes exam, it's unfair to residents if we use it that way.
The ABS is eliminating ABSITE percentiles. Why? Percentile scores are unstable, misleading, and never meant to guide promotions or fellowship decisions.

Interesting observation that highlights a potential flaw in having clinicians be the main gatekeepers of manuscripts when many (most) of us lack expertise in biostatistics. To a statistician, the discrepancy between the OR and p-value would be obvious and absurd. what about to.
I just saw an odds ratio of 10.143 with a p-value of 0.02 in a study published in a fairly normal journal. The authors of the paper lied about their sample sizes and failed to disclose major conflicts of interest warranting retraction. Peer review constantly disappoints.
