#nightshade
Pro tip: use Nightshade on everything you upload online (not only your art), social media pictures, daily photos about your meal, family, puppies, kittens, random selfies and street shots - and let the game begin.
Hey midjourney, FYI: if a person alters, conceals, falsifies, or destroys evidence with the intent to interfere with an investigation, it is a criminal offense.
Midjourney has now restricted access to their Google doc that showed a massive list of nearly 5,000 artists they scraped or intended to. And this is after a chat was outed between two MJ employees and a Stability employee discussing laundering data and destruction of evidence.
When people, who work for Midjourney, say that Glaze doesn't work and don't use it, then you can be sure as hell it's working JUST fine, and that irritates and annoys them ◠‿◠
wow, so according to AI bros, if we protect our art from theft by using Glaze, then we are unethical.
Ngl, I love their frustration.
Start glazing your artwork ;)

Artists & Creatives MUST be included in White House discussions on Generative AI, because AI doesn’t work unless it has a dataset! So how about talking to the people whose work has been stolen to build the dataset -
British artists have contacted US lawyers to discuss joining a class action against Midjourney, Stability AI, Runway AI and DeviantArt. Matthew Butterick (one of the lawyers) said: “We’ve had interest from artists around the world, including the UK.”
@johnderekmurphy
i’m seeing recently increasing numbers of tweets like this one and makes me depressed that all of us go through these mentally exhausting times still hope something changes and life turns back as it was before. 🍀
@JonLamArt
@Forbes
So if they handpicked these 16,000 artists then they had their names, right? why did not they contact them to ask permission or offer compensation?
Answer: because David never meant to ask permission.
Obviously, they wouldn't care who used the tool or not if Glaze was ineffective. ;} Which means they try really, really hard to discourage us for a reason.
Big thanks to
@YesIMaDesigner
to make this video happen about art vs AI, how to protect our IP with Glaze & Nightshade from theft, and in general, how AI works and why it's ethically wrong and how Ai was designed to kill an entire industry.
So I feel honored to have one of my artworks hanging in the lab of the legendary
@TheGlazeProject
team where Glaze was born :D Thank you for everything you do for us!!!
#itsagreatday
One of the totally unexpected but amazing perks of working on
@TheGlazeProject
is that we’ve gotten some amazing art from artists we worked with. The whole team is thrilled. We frame this amazing piece by
@eballai
in the lab.
@G__Kar
@palomamcclain
that’s true - not sure if Glaze/NS team planning to make android/iOS version but you can send the nightshaded image back to your phone from pc
@parrhizzia
@dinnnadoron
If AI learns exactly like a human then why didn't you just learn like AI does? And make images like the AI does? if it’s the same process then you don’t need ai at all.
…yea i know. it’s not the same, is it?
Interesting thread. Makes me wonder how these watermarked/copyrighted images got into Laion dataset in the first place? They didn't give a f, i guess.
Also, the private photos about KIDS in the database raise a lot of questions about their mental state.
It's wild to browse through the LIAON dataset (which big generative AI models like Stable Diffusion are trained on) and see how many images are labeled with a watermark or a copyright notice.
i don't have much time recently for doing personal work but here is a piece from last year... hope to find some time and energy to prepare something cool regarding this story.

@kursadkr
Right. None of us gave consent. some of my artist friends recently glazed all their works PLUS put a password on their website, just to be sure. I hate this new reality of ours.
By now, I'm guessing most have already seen the news on our new project, Nightshade. Lots of artists sharing it, but here's the article from MIT Technology Review (thank you to the wonderful
@Melissahei
), and a thread explaining its goals and design.
@parrhizzia
@dinnnadoron
well, you are wrong. AI can’t create new thing from scratch. it does not “learn” like human does. i know it’s hard to understand but AI doesn’t have neither emotions, nor intent to create.
When we, artists, use Glaze to protect ourselves, Ai art thieves get salty.
They call it "data poisoning". It's *NOT* data.
They are our artworks. They don't belong to you.
#fuckai
@StanfordHAI
i don’t understand how you can put “AI” and “creativity”, “authenticity” and “ownership” in the same sentence. AI doesn’t have any of them.
some sci-fi train station... called Læy'an.
There will be 2 more renders because it kinda became a complex scene with a lot of variations for storytelling:)

it is NOT *their* DATA. It is NOT *data poisoning*.
It is the protection of OUR Intellectual Property, which was never meant for AI training.
They need mental help. Immediately.
@runningcritter1
of course, we are... I don't know what's going on in these people's heads. Protecting our art from theft is considered unethical? I have pretty low expectations towards them morally, but they make me disappointed every single time
Just saw an exact same watermark generator like ours that i created with my team and that was published on january 10.
However,
@ArtShieldTeam
, who used our idea, “forgot” to credit our work, and in my dictionary it’s called stealing.
@johnderekmurphy
Yea I totally get it. To my surprise, turned out that almost all my artist friends are fighting with existential crisis. These current times are hard on all of us. It's not you or your work, just... now it's hard. Hope you find a solution until hopefully, good times are back.
It's important to remember that we all go through these stages*.
Every. Single. Time.

Art is a journey. Not a destination. Enjoy the ride :)
@TheCartelDel
In the elementary school, my art teacher told me the maximum i could reach is to be a street artist in Paris, who draws portraits for people for 2 euros. well i became a 3D artist and i do concept art for studios and would like to meet my old teacher but she passed already.
OUROBOROS.
an ancient symbol depicting a snake eating its own tail.
It usually happens, when the snake is stressed, confused (unable to tell its own tail apart from potential prey), or hungry.
Let them eat each other.

@TheGlazeProject
We thank you for being awesome :) And no worries about the time...This year, which seemed very long to me, we got not only Glaze, but soon Nightshade.... Last year at this time we had nothing. So thanks🫶
Thanks Ihabiano for inviting me and RIT’s students and faculty at the School of Design & 3D Digital Design at RIT for having me for a talk about: Concept Design, Storytelling, IP Development, Digital Matte Painting. I am absolutely honored for this opportunity ❤️

@spawning_
Except, they don't try to sell everyone their own locks - they are selling signs that you can put on your fence, that says "I want back that you stole from me, please"
An Art Director I spoke to 3 weeks ago said he wouldn't hire a Concept Artist with a portfolio posted online after 2020.
Paraphrased: "How can you judge someone's creativity, problem-solving, or critical thinking when you can fake it?"
Anyone else feel conflicted?
Out here collecting corporate statements like Pokémon cards. Keep telling them how you feel about unethical AI, it makes a difference.
Also note that Maxon is the only company here to issue an ACTUAL apology, so good on them.
@JonLamArt
@Forbes
how would you call that if you know that your carefully handpicked group of people have something you want to take and instead of asking, you just take it away without their knowledge? that list changed the game.
@Rahll
excellent post, now they can’t say “you just got what you asked for” as you didn’t even ask for it: you did not mention character names & movies and still get all those sweet stuffs. 👏
It seems fairly obvious what Midjourney has trained on to be able to generate these images. Is this legal? Is this really fair use? Who does this affect? Please see our paper for more. 10/10
Nightshade is here!!!! Our beloved poisonous 🌱. Go get it and nightshade everything (artworks+social media profile pics).
Come scrape us, AI 😘
Thank you Ben, Shawn & the team 😊
Today is the day. Nightshade v1.0 is ready. Performance tuning is done, UI fixes are done.
You can download Nightshade v1.0 from
Please read the what-is page and also the User's Guide on how to run Nightshade. It is a bit more involved than Glaze
@Framestore
Also, why did you remove the ad, if you believe that “AI can aid artists’ work” and you’ve “been open about AI”? That doesn’t make any sense.
