AI detectors are bullshit. Just another side of people turning over their thinking to an algorithm and putting far too much trust in it. Most of them are funded by the same people who fund the AI's people are trying to detect and avoid.

I hate ai. It’s a parasite, why is my professor saying my essay is 34% ai generated when I spent about 1-2 hours every day working on it

Arc raiders is a bit nuanced as they paid voice actors who knew what they were signing up for and I believe in the contract they have royalties for future use of their voices. Far better than the companies using generative AI that stole artist labor for its training dataset.

Game studios all use AI if you consider the broader term. Most large studios are using the gen AI we dislike, doing it behind the scenes & telling employees to cover it up. Many devs do not want or need to use it, management demands it. Many indie studios refuse to use it.

Arc Raiders publisher Nexon has defended the game's use of generative AI, suggesting players should "assume that every game company is now using AI." https://t.co/tzGxJpiNnS

Also unless you're an animator a good portfolio is king, I'd much rather review images than a fancy music video. They are still fun but often times you don't get a good sense of the candidate vs good image renders and workflow breakdowns.

Your reel should be able to stand on its own without music. Most often people reviewing will mute your reel and the last thing you want is for a reviewer to find your song choice annoying and not watch until the end because of it. That being said I recommend adding music.

Who is the person who keeps telling students and juniors to not put music in their demo reels? In my opinion it’s such weird advice. It’s so easy to tell when a demo reel isn’t edited to music because it just feels like a bunch of videos stuck together. Put music in your reel

We shouldn't give games a pass for exploitative gen AI but if we're going to criticize a company that's at least trying to do things right, there should be a bigger spotlight cast on the large studios too afraid to publicly share the gen AI workflows & tools they're using. 13/13

personally don't want gen AI in my games, but Arc Raiders having Gen voices for me doesn't eliminate all of the passion & craftsmanship that went into it or change that it's a good game. At worst it may cast skepticism on the credibility of other elements. 12/13

Gen AI is being forced on everyone, often by the worst people without your interest in mind, it sucks, it's annoying but it's also become the reality for many in the workplace everywhere. 11/13

The reality is AI is a huge umbrella that cover many different area's & we should remain skeptical when it's used unethically or can harm us. We also need to acknowledge that many working on or with AI are trying to innovate ethically in a way that is beneficial. 10/13

Game devs also are no stranger to new tools & AI overall. Gen AI has consumed the entire AI ecosystem to the point where haters think anything AI means slop, theft or generative. Gen AI lovers think because it's a new tech it's automatically a positive immune to criticism. 9/13

I find this far worse, not only are these studios lying, they are forcing their workers to cover for their lie, devaluing their skillsets and turning them into gen AI babysitters. Most of the time the gen AI used are these public models we should be criticizing. 8/13

Now where I feel weird about this callout is because it feels like it was made for engagement by using Arc Raiders as a martyr. Most game devs know that the majority of large studios are using generative AI behind the scenes, hiding it from the public in fear of backlash. 7/13

Did it take jobs or prevent future work? Perhaps, maybe they would have needed more VA's but if they coded their own voice AI & trained it on labor they paid for & keep it within Embark it's tough to scrutinize it the same as public models trained on unlicensed voices. 6/13

Embark specifically has done this for both the Finals & Arc Raiders. They also specifically do have voice actors on payroll to train their voice AI, so there were voice actors involved. Wether or not this makes it better I can't really say. 5/13
