Gorgeous work! A tremendous technical advance for choanoflagellate molecular biology, and a fascinating discovery showing that the hippo pathway controls the size of multicellular rosette colonies in a choano. Thank you and congrats Chantal and @thibaut_brunet!!!.

This story is very cool and makes me think about cellular constraints in evolving new sorts of cell architectures. Congrats @ReiterLab and @semilc.
We thought there wasn't much new to learn about the cell cycle. Turns out we were wrong! Our paper (out today @Nature) identifies a novel alternative cell cycle that regulates differentiation, not cell division. 1/10

In another paper, my first grad student Fredrick Leon asks the question, “what function(s) can choano cell types perform?” He finds that one cell type in S. rosetta is much better at finding acquiring a major source of iron in the oceans:
