The person next to me is coughing up a storm & maskless. Please, if you are sick & especially while traveling during this winter holiday season, wear a mask!
#respect
.
Spoke to an ICU doctor today who says he is seeing an increased number of patients both young & older with strokes. He thinks it might be related to
#COVID
infections.
#CVA
It’s interesting how tennis commentator
@ChrissieEvert
just said on ESPN - “there’s been a bit of flu going on in the men’s & womens locker room”. Flu is not that common during the summer. It’s probably COVID. And we have to call it what it is so we can deal with it.
I feel responsible for exposing my parents to COVID. We as a family after 2 years of strict isolation & wearing a mask everywhere, slowly let our guard down. Had I known cases were high again, I would have made different choices. But its a lesson we will learn from.
A patient today “ I was in
#Japan
for 2 weeks. 100% people mask indoors. Even before the
#pandemic
it’s a culture where if you have a cold, you
#mask
out of respect for others around you”.
Every time I think “maybe I am being crazy w/ COVID & masking- the world has moved on”, I see a patient who reminds me otherwise.
41 y/o w/ COVID who has been so fatigued & is suffering from a 6 month respiratory infection. He was so sad.
After a few weeks of not seeing COVID patients, today a 65 year old w/ cold symptoms tested positive. Her family went to an urgent care but weren’t tested. There is more COVID than we think. No testing, expired tests etc undercount cases. Be alert.
Here's my issue with the new
#CDC
guideline regarding
#Covid
& isolation. It was premature & it will encourage people to show up sick & maskless, exposing our vulnerable populations.
This is what I recommend to my patients.
When will this end? I’ll wear an
#N95
#mask
for as long as it takes. But I’d be lying to you if I said I enjoy the tightness of the mask all day. Just don’t know tbh what it would take to convince me to go maskless at work. What’s the end game?
This Urgent Care has a red sign that reads “2 hour PCR results”.
#COVID
cases are rising. I recommend a
#PCR
test initially. A lot of my patients are testing negative on multiple home rapid tests even w/ symptoms. Here’s what I recommend.
#CovidIsNotOver
I am seeing a lot of what
@EricTopol
is reporting in my office. We should stop using the word “mild illness” cause COVID can later cause heart & brain issues amongst other problems. Repeat COVID illness being especially dangerous.
The
#CDC
caving in to politics is sad.
I am concerned about the
#BA2variant
. Countries in Europe w/ higher vaccination rates are seeing an uptick. It’s more contagious than
#omicron
.
People have willed this pandemic over. I am upset that states are lifting
#maskmandates
.
This virus is not done w/ us!
I have said this before & I’ll say it again. If everyone is masked your mask works better. We are the only 3 clowns amongst 7 filled rows of passengers wearing a
#mask
.
#COVIDisAirborne
. Please protect my parents & wear a mask. I’ll do the same for you!
A good number of patients are being diagnosed with bronchitis at the doctors office when all along it was COVID. Home COVID tests are missing a lot of cases.
One of the biggest mistakes with not reporting COVID cases is giving people an impression that it’s not a problem. This is a big public health flaw! Give people info & let them decide what to do with it!
Just started the day. And already 4 are COVID positive. Coughing, shortness of breath, fevers. I hope the doctors not pushing for
#maskmandates
are also actively seeing patients.
I got my Covid booster because:
1. I want to decrease my risk of getting severely sick w/ COVID
2. I want to cut down on my risk of
#Longcovid
3. I want to protect my elderly parents, who are also boosted.
4. It’s the winter season & COVID cases are up!
COVID is rising . I wish the White House Taskforce would play an active role again. This is about our nation’s health not politics.
#COVID19
#CovidIsNotOver
I am not sure why people think you need a fever to have Covid. You don’t. Just nasal congestion can be Covid.
You must test but wait 2 days after symptoms begin.
Just cause COVID felt like a cold for you please remember even today people struggle with this infection. It sucks your energy, makes you feel out of breath with chest pain, not to mention pneumonia, blood clots & other
#LongCovid
symptoms.
We should not normalize COVID. It’s not everyone’s destiny to get infected. We get vaccinated, get boosted, wear a
#KN95
mask in congested spaces & live our lives.
#Longcovid
is a threat. Getting infected more than twice increases risk of brain & heart issues.
Why aren’t you reinstating
#MaskMandates
@ashishkjha
?
Will the
#whitehouse
bear responsibility for those who develop
#longcovid
? We should be talking more about prevention & not harp on treatment. Goal is to NOT get infected. This is about science not politics.
So this is what happens when you politely ask a colleague to reconsider her stance on
#maskmandates
. I respect Dr. Wen a lot & still do. I just didn’t agree with how she pivoted on this topic. We don’t have to agree on everything but can’t we have a discussion?
#leanawen
Why are we relaxing guidelines regarding
#masks
at doctors offices & COVID numbers reporting by
#CDC
at the beginning of the the winter season? What’s the logic?
@abbydphillip
The grade I made in Biochemistry as a medical student has nothing to do with my success as a doctor. I passed the course.Also not every person has the same privileges & opportunities in life. But given an opportunity it’s what you do with it that makes you successful!
Adding layers of protection like wearing a well fitted mask, protecting the elderly & even testing is what we should be doing when COVID cases are high. But how do we know if cases are high if no one cares to report them?
I was born in Africa to South Asian Christian parents. In my late 20s I was engaged under a semi arranged system to a young lady in Florida. It was one of the darkest times of my life. I knew about my sexuality but I was scared. Watch!
#PrideMonth2021
@Surgeon_General
What worries me the most about COVID today are the possible long term complications, especially in someone who has been infected over & over again.
#LongCovid
Mandate vaccines for everything - travel, movies, restaurants, concerts etc. I have tried everything I can as a family doctor. I am tired of seeing my patients suffer from
#LongCovid
. It pains me to fill disability paperwork for young & healthy COVID patients.
@DrRobDavidson
Just out of the ER and
#COVID19
is ripping through West Michigan worse than ever. Half of my ER were patients waiting to be admitted with no beds. More COVID inpatients than we’ve ever had. 85-90% are
#unvaxxed
. And still more coming in. Time for more
#VaccineMandates
.
Just saw a patient whose entire family had Covid last week. It’s still with us. Get tested & let’s at least protect our most vulnerable. I get it - we are all tired of talking about Covid.
A message to my new 600 plus followers from Africa. Thank you
@iyaboawokoya
for your support. All my childhood memories are in Nigeria. I moved to the US at age 16. Thank you for your trust. I will do my best to present medical information that is accurate & easy to understand.
GREEN!!!! That’s my new favorite color. Caught
@AnaCabrera
on CNN share this amazing graphic. Vaccines work my friends. Let’s turn the entire US green!
#GetVaccinatedASAP
My older parents both tested positive for COVID for the first time, which breaks my heart. They were isolated for 2 years at the start of the pandemic. We let our guard down seeing family etc. They are on Paxlovid & I pray they do well.
After a few weeks of not seeing COVID patients, today a 65 year old w/ cold symptoms tested positive. Her family went to an urgent care but weren’t tested. There is more COVID than we think. No testing, expired tests etc undercount cases. Be alert.
Please join me in congratulating
@AnaCabrera
on her new show “Ana Cabrera Reports” to debut April 10th on
@MSNBC
at the 10 am hour.
Get ready y’all! It’s gonna be great!
"CDC is now recommending updated COVID-19 vaccination for everyone 6 months & older to better protect you and your loved ones."
This was the right move. You cannot expect to eliminate a virus if you only focus on certain groups. COVID is everybody’s burden.
Permit me to reintroduce myself. I am a primary care doctor & a public health specialist - MD/MPH. I am an Indian American born & raised in Nigeria to
#SouthIndian
parents. I speak multiple languages,love traveling the world & an avid
#tennis
player. I love people & my job.
ER docs like
@choo_ek
take care of victims of gun violence as they bleed to death & fight for their lives. How on earth can we as doctors “stay in our lane” & not plead for reform? This would be a direct insult to our
#Hippocraticoath
of “Do No Harm”.
My parents celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary today. I am lucky to have them. My Papa has a PhD in Agriculture & Mummy is a Chemist. They gave me everything I have today & I can’t imagine a life without them.
You trust me as your doctor to take care of you & your family.
You trust me with very personal & intimate information.
You trust me to prescribe medications for your heart & kidneys.
But you don’t trust me to protect you with a vaccine that will save your life!
My Dad today when my segment w/
@AnaCabrera
was cancelled due to the President’s speech:
“Why weren’t you on with Ana today? I know the President was live, but your piece is important too. We have to get people vaccinated! “. He is too cute and he loves Ana. Lol
I won’t lie. I am exhausted. Saw 17 patients today. It’s more mentally draining to convince those
#unvaccinated
to get the shot, than to just do my regular job as a doctor!
Not giving up though. Still trying……
Love your show
@abbydphillip
. And adding to your discussion this morning we have to convince especially the young on how different life can be, if they get vaccinated! Travel, packing the sport stadiums, large indoor weddings.
Being too cautious can cause mistrust & complacency
An ER doc friend of mine says:
98% in her ICU are
#unvaccinated
80% of this group are
#intubated
.
And the
#SCOTUS
doesn’t think it’s important to prevent this?
To all my Nigerian brothas & sistas, thank you o! I will never forget my first 17 years of life in Nigeria. I was born in Kabba, Kogi State & then moved to Zaria, Kaduna State. I came to the US after secondary school. I sabi speak pidgin well well o!!
@iyaboawokoya
Georgia Election Runoff. Tried to vote again but it’s a 2 hour wait. Tried last night & it was 3 hr wait. Not the most convenient if you work in healthcare. I’ll try again election day.
#GeorgiaVoters
I’ve said this before & I’ll say it again. Covid is not the cold. Nursing homes are getting hit hard. We must protect the elderly & the vulnerable. Your Covid could be somebody else’s nightmare.
1 in 4 nursing homes reporting
#COVID
outbreaks in NJ. COVID rapid tests sold out in many stores. Hospitalizations rising. First Lady also infected. School outbreaks nationwide. No more excuses ➡️
#MaskUo
#Ventilate
#CovidIsNotOver
.
Getting the
#booster
shot increases your
#antibodies
by about 25-fold. This is like having a fresh set of young soldiers to help fight the war. It not only increases the strength of your vaccine but also the duration — how long the vaccine can last.
@AnaCabrera
In my practice:
1. Most patient’s have stopped at 2 shots.
2. Most don’t wear a
#mask
3. Most have had COVID at least once
4. I see a good number w/
#LongCovid
This is while the pandemic is raging.
#BA5
is as contagious as
#measles
. No protection even if you had
#omicron
.
My parents celebrate 60 years of marriage today. An incredible milestone & I am thankful to God. Throwing them a small party. They don’t like huge celebrations. So glad God brought them together. They are the wind beneath my wings. I can’t imagine a world without them.
I agree w/
@choo_ek
. Making a requirement that people be vaccinated is key this year for gatherings.
In my family we are only getting together w/
#FullyVaccinated
&
#Boosted
persons.
It’s ok to put your foot down! This is a matter of life & death.
Some good
#COVID
news. The newer variants circulating like
#BQ
are not causing increased hospitalizations. However word of caution - any COVID infection is still a risk for
#LongCovid
. Our goal should be to NOT get the virus!
A young patient who lost his smell from Covid 3 years ago didn’t realize his wife had left the stove on. She comes back from work & had to quickly open the windows. He was working from home & smelt nothing.
#LongCovid
President Biden can go further. We must get all airport employees vaccinated. Let’s also give
#travelers
an incentive to get the shot by creating a
#fastpass
at the airports. Watch.
@AnaCabrera
Still not comfortable w/ indoor dining. And I miss it so much! It’s been 3 years since I have sat inside a restaurant in the US. Always hearing that story “ I was able to fight COVID for 2 years until I met a friend at a restaurant indoors!”
I dreamt big as a kid born & raised in Africa. My Nigerian family, my parents & America believed in me. I worked hard to get into medical school in the US, fought racism along the way & saved my biggest battle at the end when I defied my culture & came out. Believe in yourself!
#Vaccinemandates
will end soon. You can’t force anyone to get a shot. International travelers can now visit the US freely. We are in a better phase. But I don’t think my
#mask
will come off anytime soon when I see patients. It just won’t feel right, at least not now.
What we are missing is simple. Yes
#vaccines
&
#boosters
work well to prevent severe disease & death but infections result in
#longcovid
!
Wearing masks will decrease infections if MOST wear one, not just a few. That’s why we must
#mandatemasks
!
Yes my parents may not accept my gay lifestyle but they love me. You pick your battles in life. I love them so much. They sacrificed a lot for me. My mom even gave up her pursuit of a Phd to be with us as kids. I owe them a lot.
Seeing surges of Covid patients especially after the holiday gathering. Mostly cold like symptoms. Please remember home tests are not very accurate & wait 2 days before testing.
While I can’t give my parents grandkids & a beautiful daughter in law, I am not living a lie. It’s
#NationalComingOutDay
believe it or not & to all those struggling, be yourself, be honest.
@morethanmySLE
Life is not perfect. Yes I missed a good portion of mine trying to please my parents & hide my sexuality. But COVID also reminded me how fragile & short life is. I am a good person - I just happen to be
#gay
.
#bollywoodwedding

@DocInTheKnow
There’s really not much reporting of cases where I am. Lots of the organizations have stopped. Cases at work have been very low & also our ER & hospitalizations are down. But all it takes is one exposure.
I have the utmost respect for President Carter who made a monumental effort to be at his wife’s funeral today. Now that’s the kind of partner you want in your life.
#RosalynnCarter
One of my first patients when I finished residency just turned 93 years! Her secret to longevity? Eat healthy, exercise daily, dance & stay away from the internet! I love this woman. She is an incredible cook, dances 8 hrs a week & has better memory than me.
COVID is very much with us. If you have a cold, loss of taste & smell, a cough - please get tested. The most accurate is a PCR test. Most home tests are expired. Call the nearest Urgent Care to see if they can test you.
#Paxlovid
is a good option for high risk patients.
Why are we waiting to
#mandate
vaccines for
#travel
? One way to control the spread of the virus this winter as millions fly, is to ban the
#unvaccinated
& not ban travel!
I wasn’t perfect on this trip w/
#masking
. I am COVID vaccinated 5 times but your risk of infection still remains high. I will wear a
#mask
around my parents for a week & get tested 2 days after I return. I always wear my
#N95
at work. Life is short & I enjoyed
#Paris
.
@airfrance
What keeps me going day in & out working long hours is having a bit of fun. My life can’t always be about medicine & COVID. We all need a mental break :)
@kenjeong
will appreciate my craziness!
For the first time I actually noticed that it took $81 to fill my gas tank. And then I thought what about my nurse?
I sent her a small gift on Venmo. She was in tears. It’s tough on so many fronts. My nurse is who makes me successful.
As physicians we have to speak the truth & sometimes that means upsetting people including your boss.
I agree w/
@JReinerMD
, Dr Deborah
#Birx
had a professional responsibility to speak up or resign. It’s easy to write a book after the storm.
My cute & caring father the other day - “we tried our level best to get you married but it didn’t work. We worry about you being alone when we are gone”
My reply - “ Papa I am living an honest life & God will take care of me. Don’t you worry”. (broke my heart to see my Dad sad)
If you had
#COVID
1 time, goal is to avoid it a 2nd time.
If you had COVID 2 times, goal is to avoid it a 3 rd time etc……
Repeat infections can increase heart & brain issues.
