The physical rehabilitation should be a given, but it is often the mental approach to a serious injury that defines the outcome.
“My game is over, my season is over, my World Cup is over.”. Seven months away from the pitch, seven months of intensive work, seven months to fight for his career. This is the story of @6_LKOSCIELNY: STRONGER.

“The technology and data will never affect the outcome, the people interpreting that data will”. Impt message from @darrenburgess25 @UKSCA. It applies to so many other aspects in elite sports eg the data on scans, investigations, bloods, nutrition etc is all about interpretation

Always 2 sides to a story. However this is not #playerwelfare. Players need protecting and educating. yet the silence is deafening.

Enjoyed sharing @Arsenal approach to player health. So much more than just the absence of injury and constantly evolving. Thanks to @FIFPro @VGouttebarge @thedrakefdn @jjpdrake

Evidence that workload should not be used, in isolation, to predict injury. It remains much more complex and the search goes on. Great work @Alan_McCall_ , @Barthouch , @GregDupontSport ,Brain Dawson and Serge Bethoin

Thanks to @Seth0Neill for a real insight into a real problem. So much time spent screening and preventing hamstring and groin injuries. Don’t leave out the calf!!

Thanks to Prof Lorimer Moseley @bodyinmind. Pain is complex, not just related to tissue damage and importantly not just related to a scan. To understand a persons pain, understand the human, the context and the environment.

An interesting day ahead highlighting concussion in sport. @WillStewNeuro leading the way in football studies and reminding all that that more studies needed and to consider the benefits of football alongside current headlines. #UKSCRS19 #FIELD study.

This is a good start. Still a long way for us to go to match the advances in concussion management and research in other sports.
Following our @TheIFAB Concussion Expert Group meeting, football is finally stepping forward for the protection of players at all levels with additional permanent substitution❗️All stakeholders agree: education is key➡️watch @FIFPro video with @PetrCech

Athlete to Athlete education is such a powerful tool so well done to Petr and Alavaro on this piece of work. Concussion more and more recognised within football as the serious condition that it is.
.@PetrCech [@Arsenal] and @AlvaroPalitoP are helping @FIFPro educate their colleagues in professional football on what to do when they suspect a team mate or opponent of having a #concussion. Read more 👇.

Many congratulations from all in the department here Dan.
Very excited to finally be a consultant in sport and exercise medicine. My journey started in 2006 sitting in clinic with @RodJaques and then doing the intercalated BSc @QMULSportExMed in 2007-08. Have so many people to thank for helping me get where I am today and am so grateful.

I had not seen this @andymcgeady. Although there are 2 sides to any story this is simply an irresponsible headline. There are guidelines in place to protect players but this message undermines them all. #educateonconcussion.

This will certainly contribute. Alongside Jonathan’s points is the issue of communication. In football there is such variety in language and awareness that time in a quiet environment with translator if needed can only help the accuracy of diagnosis and thus the player.
@SportsDocSkye @Ligue1_ENG @Ligue2BKT @FIFPro @UNFP @peterrobinson86 @TheIFAB @andy_massey @DrMarkFulcher @OhMyGoalUS @GeorgeChiampas @docgaryod @raphaelvarane Do you think @TheIFAB extra permanent sub is such a measure and will contribute? Curious to hear your expert's view 😉.
