On turnout, it's important to note context matters. Scotland from 2014 onwards has noted some real success, whereas the picture in Wales was more mixed. NI already has some of the lowest turnout rates in the UK for Westminster. We could see here, what Wales had due to COVID.

On the change of the franchise at the next GE. Three seats are held by fewer than 2k votes. ELD-179 votes.NA-450 votes.EA-1,306 votes. 2027 Assembly would have been interesting with new boundaries and new voters to add to unpredictability.

It looks like we will have to wait until 2032 to see the impact of this in an STV election. The change would have had the most significant influence in these elections due to the closeness of many seats in the later counts.

Also important to note that there are unintended consequences of lowering the voting age. 1970 was the first GE that 18 year olds could vote, yet it resulted in a shock Tory win. 9 years later the Tories began an 18 year run of power. Lowering the age didn't help the left.

We need to stop talking about carrying on UK programmes in a UI. They aren't needed and lacks conviction in the strength of our own case.

Just think it is worth highlighting that it was the GMB interviewer who framed the question as us being a basket case and lamented the money being put in from the rest of the UK.

Not since 1966 has FG even come close to winning the presidency. Will be interesting to see if McGuinness and turn around the party's poor fortunes in winning the Aras.

Mairéad McGuinness has the best of both worlds: she is the only formal #aras25 candidate this afternoon as Fine Gael closes its window for nominations - but gets to skip silly season campaigning as she won’t be formally ratified until a party event in September @VirginMediaNews.
