You know what the biggest problem with pushing all-things-AI is? Wrong direction. I want AI to do my laundry and dishes so that I can do art and writing, not for AI to do my art and writing so that I can do my laundry and dishes.

We are watching the internet die, anodyne business nonsense responded to with generative anodyne business nonsense to train models to create more anodyne business nonsense, an endless loop of inbreeding creating digital Hapsburgs everywhere

these things are a sign of a declining society you have mental illness if you desire to provide for and nurture a creature that brings no value in return to your household hundreds of years ago people would have never simply because they had self respect

Visitor: When will you tell us where you keep the unicorns? 🦄 Us: As soon as visitors stop feeding squirrels and taking dangerous selfies with bison, we'll let you know where the horses with giant spikes on their heads roam.

In 1631, a Dutch guy published a book about his travels to SE Asia and it brought the word "orangutan" into Western languages. Its description of orangutans is amazing

I quit as a Frontiers editor and refuse to review papers for them because of how difficult the journal makes rejecting a paper. You essentially can’t, you can only get stuck in endless reviewing loops. Still shame on everyone involved, but this is what the Frontiers system allows

Reminder that we don't know the original European word for bear-the original name has been lost, as people stopped saying it out of fear that it would summon bears to kill them. Bear was one of many nicknames that people started referring to them as to avoid the lost name

The @guardian hitting the nail on the head with this piece saying that the integrity of the scientific archive is under serious pressure. @deevybee also makes a good point: "People are building careers on the back of this tidal wave of fraudulent science" You should read this
