Out today: my article for @guardian! In 2017, 2 orcas started killing great white sharks in South Africa. Here's the whole story so far & how the effects could be a grim reflection of the future of sharks under the much bigger threat of overfishing! 🦈 https://t.co/VxKRTwM15e

A decade ago, up to 1,000 of the apex predators lived in one South African bay. Now they have gone, fleeing from killer whales. But the gap they have left creates problems for other species

Sabre teeth are a classic example of convergence. Our new study, integrating 3D shape, biomechanics, and optimality modelling, helps explain why: revealing that functional optimality was a key driver behind the repeated evolution of extreme sabre-tooth morphologies🔪🦷 Link⬇️

I'm now open for commission(s)! Available for 3d models, simple renders and full scenes of anything palaeontology related. 🦖🦕🦑 DM me with your ideas or price inquiries. One slot available for now.

Actually a bit misleading - should say the ancestor of crocodylomorphs - the MRCA of modern crocs is probably Cretaceous in age

I am really happy to share a preprint that @millacarmonia and I just released, including our new R package chronospace, which includes novel tools to explore and visualize sensitivity in the estimation of divergence times 1/x https://t.co/hjvY0YxPqQ

Ancient Kraken - Weighing over a tonne with a shell up to 3.5m in diameter, Parapuzosia seppenradensis is the largest invertebrate to have ever lived. Had great fun modelling this in blender! #paleoart #ammonites #paleontology #digitalart

Around this time 8 years ago, I begged my dad to take me to London to hear a talk on the brand new exhibit of Sophie the stegosaurus at the NHM. Yesterday I GAVE a talk at the NHM for #SVPCA2022 Full circle!
