Happy to share that the first chapter of my PhD work has been published! It explores how wing morphology of lacewing is constrained by multiple factors, and surprisingly, these wings have not shown an optimal in the flight capabilities or a tendency towards optimization.
Our latest: awesome study from @CockroachJuice on how animal wings aren’t always (ever?) optimised for flight - slightly rubbish wings are good enough for lacewings - with @digitalpalaeo @jemilyr.

Elegent wings.
🇲🇾 Malaysia.ボルネオ島サバ州. Phyllium giganteum male.オオコノハムシ ♂. 初入手 ＆ 初クリーニング。. 雌と比べると小型で迫力に欠けますが、それでもコノハムシ独特のオーラが有りますね。. 改めて自然の造形美の凄さを感じました。
