Folks doomsaying @OpenAI miss a few points. 1) ChatGPT is a valued brand & associated to everything #GenAI 2) #OpenAI like @Apple may not have the best specs but has great #UX & understands its use cases well 3) @Microsoft has a vested interest: distribution, quantum & data

DBS CEO mentioned to #HR leaders that the premium on domain knowledge will decrease over time with easier access to expertise. What becomes important is lateral and critical thinking to connect the dots which is taught in liberal arts education.

Always a big problem when the senior team has more managers than makers. Exhibit A is @Boeing, where 2 of the last 3 CEOs (McNerny and Calhoun) were non-engineers. Bottom line: it's easier to teach engineers how to manage a company than teach managers how to engineer a plane.

Starting to think Product Management will be overtaken by Product Engineering. Engineers are learning product. PMs aren’t learning how to build. Reminds me of “information architects” in the old days arguing that nobody understood how important they were. Then they disappeared.

One observation is that brands are getting in earlier in the minds of the customer before they even consider purchase. This generally works because of the principle of reciprocity: you are giving something of value and building trust as a brand first. Consistency is key.

A third way, is to consider the points of friction in the customer journey and then find/design a channel. e.g. buying insurance plans can be intimidating, therefore roadshows during lunch in commercial centres on personal finance lowers friction with in-person consultation

A second way, is to consider designing acquisition loops that encourage referral from existing prospects/customers. e.g. credit card giving free gift to you and your friend if they sign-up as part of on-boarding

A better way to find product-channel fit is to research more about the customer, the buyer's journey and identify channels that are under-utilised. e.g. providing cosmetic product samples in a women professional networking community

Most people will invest equally in multiple channels or follow their competitors. This creates a problem of under-investing or over-saturation in a channel. Digital channels are generally more expensive today to run ads than before.

Following Pareto Principle, that there is usually one channel that brings in the majority of your new customers/sales. #Product folks don't design distribution channels, we find the right channels based on the product we have designed.

Any cosmetic brand selling only through an online sales channel compensate by having multiple influencer endorsements and customer reviews (or sending free samples).
