It turns out tariffs are on the whole bad for manufacturing.
The US continues to lose manufacturing jobs—payrolls are down 94k over the last year, & another 6k jobs were lost in September Transportation (especially auto manufacturing) and electronics/electrical manufacturing are the biggest losers, but almost no subsectors are doing well

@BrianHJacobson This is not correct. Colorado’s SB 24-205 mandates a differential treatment standard and requires practices that will only amplify the censorious instincts of these companies while opening them up to pressure from progressive groups. There are ways to deal with this problem,

🔥NEW STATEMENT: Meta’s court win is a win for common sense. A federal judge ruled Meta didn’t violate antitrust law in buying Instagram or WhatsApp—a reminder that the tech sector thrives when innovators can compete freely. More from @davidbmcgarry below👇

The choice is between a moratorium on the state-level regulation of an interstate technology and a moratorium on innovation.

The President is absolutely correct in calling for Federal AI standards. The state patchwork issue is very real. I was dealing with the 1100-plus state bills this past year. We can't continue down that path. It's unsustainable, and it will slow down our economy.

The wins in these cases are not primarily wins for specific companies. They are wins for free competition, dynamic innovation, and, ultimately, the consumer.
Today a court ruled that the FTC had failed to prove Meta's acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp violated antitrust laws. TLDR they said Meta is not a monopoly (which to me seems pretty obvious) An immediate reaction thread on why this is good news for more than just Meta

The case gerrymandered market definitions to prove that no competition exists in a wildly competitive space. Meta’s products are popular because they are world-class. They are not unchallenged, however. Easy and predictable win for basic economics and the rule of law.

The App Store Freedom Act would rip digital child-safety tools from the hands of parents. These consequences may be unintended, but they are not unforeseen. Read my latest for the full analysis:

.@RepKatCammack's App Store Freedom Act would eviscerate the ability of parents to manage their children’s online lives and guard them against unsavory and child-unfriendly corners of the internet. @davidbmcgarry in @amspectator: https://t.co/7PwcPC7tsa

Consequences unintended, though not unforeseen, lurk within many of the most popular proposals in technology policy. In their haste to achieve some perceived good, lawmakers hurry past the warnings...
