RIP Kevin Drum. What a journalist, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be this:

The hidden villain behind violent crime, lower IQs, and the maybe even the ADHD epidemic.

Improve loading/unloading time. Years ago there was a double ended jet bridge by a company called DEW. Using both front and back doors, you save 13.5 min per flight. They sold a few, but after an incident where a wing was damaged, they disappeared. Someone should try again.
Before I locked in on supersonic I considered doing a speed-oriented airline that would operate out of private terminals. @flyjsx was founded around essentially the same idea 2 years later. In researching this, I had my friends keep a log of how travel time was actually spent.

Justin Amash had a great explanation of this a few years back on Andrew Yang's podcast. It seems to have gotten much worse since then.

Democracy is busted in the U.S. currently due to House rules. It's crazy that it takes special procedure to pass a bill that has 76% support in the House, and even 54% support among Republicans, including the support of the Speaker. The House should be the voice of the people.

1/ Markets are a way to turn millions of brains into a giant collective brain. No one has created a computer with the cognitive power of millions of humans. But... that's not all. Humans along with their great computational ability also have incredible sensors.
Why the Soviet experiment still would have failed even with better computers Some thoughts on why AI-based central planning of the kind @RokoMijic describes won't work ** 1 Rational allocation requires economic calculation. Removing free price formation hinders the

Interesting... The ADM-160B decoy drone shows up in Ukraine yesterday. Today, Ukraine shoots down 4 Russian aircraft, some say with air-to-air missiles. Could Ukraine have sent in decoy drones configured to look like MiG-29s but this time with real MiG-29s behind them?

Ever notice how English translations of Russian technical material always use the word "Complex" instead of "System?" You notice it especially in a military context, like "The S-300 missile complex has a 60 mile range." Why does this happen?

Rayleigh's criterion: two point sources viewed thru an aperture are ‘just’ resolved when the maximum of the Airy disk (PSF) of one source falls on the first minimum of the PSF of the other This idea is often mistaken for a physical law — it is not. It’s just a rule of thumb 1/4

Shoot, they must have just turned off the image input from GPT-4. This was a couple of hours ago:
