Our Commissioner Marzano met yesterday with the 2025 Nuclear Engineering Student Delegation at our headquarters, to discuss students’ views and the future of the nuclear field. The delegation consisted of undergraduate and graduate students from about a dozen universities.

We heard from citizens interested in topics such as how small modular reactors might end up at the site, how we inspect cleanup efforts and what will be done with Oyster Creek’s used nuclear fuel. You can see our presentation here:

Companies that decommission nuclear plants have to give us plans for cleaning up the site enough for the agency to release the land for other uses. We were recently near the closed Oyster Creek reactor, to tell the community about Holtec’s plans and take public comments.
