I'm Dave Murray. Illustrator, coffee drinker, beer league goaltender. I draw most things, with a special appreciation for gesture, motion, and sports. You can see my work here:
Ok, want to see how a person's art can evolve over time?
10 years ago, I painted Ken Dryden (probably using the same reference, based on the equipment). Let's be honest: this is pretty not-good.
4 years ago, I did a digital illustration.
And then, this week's finished piece.
Creating illustrations for the 2022 Heritage Classic was a true dream. My style proved to be a good fit for the “industrial” aesthetic of the event, which I further emphasized with rivets & shapes that reflected the machinery present in the steel mills Hamilton is known for.
What a FUN project.
All 16 portraits from my 2024 Playoff Series are available as prints until the end of this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs.

So, I made this. Because I know I'll be casting my vote for
@jen_keesmaat
. I hope, if you live here, you'll do your research, and cast your vote for someone who inspires you. Thanks for reading my little political rant.

Very proud to share the news: my
@canadapostcorp
bee stamps are now available! I’m SO excited to have my work on these stamps, which highlight a few of Canada’s threatened bee populations. Huge thanks to designer Andrew Perro, and Canada Post for having me illustrate these!
Cover illustration for today’s

@zagatam
is an AD I’ll happily take on 5-hour turnarounds for.
I'm feeling good today, so: Hey sports teams/leagues: hire me to draw stuff for you. I've worked on some hilariously high-profile stuff over the past while, and thoroughly enjoy drawing athletes in motion. Yeah, it's been mostly hockey, but you know I'd excel with any sport.
COOL: being commissioned to draw hockey players
COOLEST: being commissioned by the dad of said hockey players
It was awesome to make these pieces of

Ok, can I tell you all a tale? Because I think I’m being harassed with Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 DVDs that keep getting left on my porch, and it’s been going on for 6 MONTHS.
Some big news: I’m working with the
@nhl
to create some VERY playoff-relevant work. This, as you might expect, is an absolute dream for me - stay tuned for more!

From last year: an animation idea I pitched to the NHL. Well received, but it ended up being benched. The concept revolved around illustrating and animating the “modern” game (in this case featuring the newest team, the

(THREAD) Hello Toronto Art/Illustration/Design friends: I'm now loosely responsible for a large space in the Junction where YOU could have an event/art show/talk/sale, etc.
Happy to share these posters I've been making in response to the current state of things. Though they were produced as kind of a side project to a bigger project (that I can announce soon!), I'm having fun making them, and look forward to making more.

It's Sunday, I've had a coffee, and am still jazzed from yesterday's wild NHL hijinks. So I'm putting this out there: newspaper sports sections! Sports magazines! Teams, etc. Hire me. There are few things I enjoy more than bringing the movement of sport onto the printed page.

I am SO proud to be able to share my portrait of the Stanley Cup. When you grow up playing hockey, lifting the Cup is THE dream. I only lift beer league trophies now, but being asked to create this portrait feels just a little bit like winning the Cup itself...at least to me.
16/16 - I did it.
Shesterkin, Forsberg, Aho, Eichel.
All of the prints are ready to go on my site - I’ll be starting the print run tomorrow and shipping out during the week.
