Heatmap of the number of words I write every morning like Github's commit heatmap. Created without leaving window, under 10 minutes. Guess what this does to my actual coding heatmap.

Music won’t require personal musicians in fifteen years and your favorite “artist” will be a personal algorithm, though you will still have your favorite generic public celebrity musicians.

Automation is a limiting factor in general I guess. E.g. I can let GPTx generate hypotheses to help me debug a production issue. But if those hypotheses can be tested automatically (which is quite possible in software), I can probably sit n watch incidents recovered by AI.

Yes, it will accelerate research but like a 10-100x google scholar. Experimental science is ultimately limited by… experiments.

Has anybody used @datadoghq profiler and observed it open too many pipe FDs leading to too many open files? The profiler literally crashed my application so many times.

Unpopular opinion: Any engineer afraid AI will take their job must have been pretty "meh" in the first place, since any good engineer knows the job is to automate yourself out of a job and move on to automating yourself out of the next job, over & over again til the end of time.

I had not used @getsentry 's performance section until yesterday but today I love it. It's really cool how easy to enable it is, especially if you're already using Sentry for error tracking.

Why does it still suck to hunt down issues like "Too many open files" in a container leading to connection refused to a database? Like I know you can find it in the logs, but isn't that the same since the beginning of computing?.

I love coffee and I can't stop drinking it! But my mood depends on it more than I prefer. Anyone who's been in the same boat has any de-dependency hack? First hand advice only.

It's a very high leverage role, and harder than it sounds. 😉 . Engineering cycles are the scarcest resource any tech company has. The role ops plays is now to enable developers to self-serve and own their code, and to spend their cycles moving the business materially forward.
