I’ve always been in favour of a two week October half term holidsy... teachers and pupils need a decent break during a long and exhausting Autumn term. Now, more than ever.

@darynsimon Looks like our govt want teachers planning remote learning over half term, with their new law deadline! 🤬

@darynsimon We have 2 weeks for October half term and it is really needed. We also have 3 weeks at Christmas and finish around the 12th of July for summer due to having Saturday morning lessons as a state boarding school.

@darynsimon This has been the hardest month of school I’ve done since my NQT year. In 1994...

@darynsimon My new school does this. I will be so grateful for it. Even more grateful that my daughter's school only has one week so I can have 5 mins to work in peace! 😂

@darynsimon Will schools be closed if their is a full lockdown or will we be expected to be open come what may?

@darynsimon We now have this in Notts - made a huge difference last year. Reduced staff absence, supported wellbeing and meant that we were able to keep going until the Christmas break. Also meant that staff could book cheaper holidays (prob not a benefit this year!)

@darynsimon We put all the teacher training days together every year to have two weeks in the Autumn term and did all our CPD through twilights. Staff loved it, kids loved it, parents loved it, reduced term time holiday requests to 0 so governors loved it!

@darynsimon We’ve had 2 weeks for around 10 years! It is amazing, the benefits on staff health and well being are fantastic too. Plus... a whole week to myself pottering whilst my 3 are at school... it feels like such a treat! 🙌🏼

@darynsimon We had this in Brighton and Hove but they voted to revert back to one week. I think teachers who had young children found the two weeks hard as they didn't have partner support and we then got a a shorter Christmas holiday. I loved it though, but my partner is also a teacher.

@darynsimon Yes I agree. Two weeks seems even more sensible this year.

@darynsimon We do this on the Isle of Wight. It means one week out of season for our families who rely on the tourist trade for income and therefore like to take holidays in term time! Not sure if it helps the figures, but definitely looking forward to two weeks off quite soon.

@darynsimon Agree 💯! I used to work in a school that had a two week October half term and I truly miss it. It made so much difference to my energy levels and wellbeing 💕

@darynsimon In normal times this sounds great, this year it's likely to be at the same time as a lockdown. If that's the case parent-teachers won't be getting much of a rest. I love my little one but in the holidays I do like to pitch up at my parents/in-laws so I get some respite.

@darynsimon I’m guessing if we have it enforced upon us this year we will have to remain open for key workers and vulnerable children. Anyone else feel this is being discussed?
