For the second year in a row, Ambrus has been nominated for Volatility Hedge Fund of the Year. I’m genuinely grateful for the recognition, but I also see it as a reminder of a larger point: much of the volatility space remains dominated by “passive” approaches. True success in

💡💡I don’t think there’s any material objection anyone could conjure up to Kris’s (Ambrus’) conclusion. The only consideration I can think of is that investors, allocators and PMs are optimizing for risk adjusted performance/shallow drawdowns vs absolute returns. Ie. I don’t.

AI is a powerful aid once you have domain expertise; without it, you can easily slip into multi week rabbit holes of confusion. Especially for anything quant finance or fin engineering related. Human beings are still extremely valuable despite the 24/7 propaganda that tells us.

AI tools will reduce the need for software engineers the same way that no-code tools reduced this. Being able to specify what software you want to build, how it should be structured, and how *exactly* it should work is. programming. And getting into the weeds, when needed.

This directly applies to profitable edges accessible to higher end retail. The most difficult periods for me in 15 yrs of doing this are the times when I try to formalize and scale up edges that simply aren’t feasibly traded in partnerships or at a CTA, let alone at the sec-HF.

Excellent pod! The low levels of implied and realized correlations is an interesting new thing and does present lots of opportunities for indies to exploit. |

Interesting take. I think this presumes that the capital allocators, just like in any other industry, are excellent talent evaluators. And I’m just not convinced that most industries are good are identifying true talent and then subsequently cultivating and extracting the max.

citadels law: any industry with sufficiently high stakes will end up mirroring the culture of hedge funds. massive cash comp for the top performers, bid away dynamics where entire teams walk together, extreme litigation of non competes, hardo work 24/7 culture, short tenures.

Oh no 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️. You can see something separate in the replay. Looks like Tyrese’s Achilles snapped. He was off to a great start too. Tyrese is a helluva competitor and a star PG. He has nothing to be ashamed of, he left it all out on the floor. 💯.

For comparison, the avg salary cap in 1985 was 4.9mm. It’s insane to think about how much money NBA players make in modern times relative to the pioneers (even after inflation). And over the next 2-3 yrs a supermax player will be making 90mm/yr.

The Suns are paying Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, and Jalen Green a combined $290.1M over the next two seasons. $145M per year… 90% of the cap.

Good idea, but the personnel on the ‘11 Mavs team was older and not anywhere near athletic enough to go man vs the Heat. Simply put…Shai and Jalen Williams will destroy a 2-3 or a 3-2 zone. Carlisle is smart for avoiding it. He has the athletes, the youth, the IQ and the depth.

Rick Carlisle hasn’t used zone once this series. Not even against a Thunder team that has struggled against it. But what if he’s been saving a twist for Game 7—like he did in 2011?.🧵

🤦🏽‍♂️It’s 2003 all over again. Might as well embrace it like we collectively did back then, we can’t delude ourselves at this point. This is what our tax dollars fund whether we hate or love it. The line was crossed yday and the war is officially on. I hate all of this. And we are.
