In the comedy "What Women Want," an advertising executive, played by Mel Gibson, has an accident that causes him to hear what women are actually thinking. We need a new film called "What Tech CEOs Want" - I'm just not sure if it will end up being a comedy or a horror film.

When smartphones & social media were just beginning, few if any said they were bad, many of their problematic implications were understood only years later. AI is so much more powerful & ubiquitous than these two. How can one be that confident three years in that it's a net good?

"Re-creating" old, out-of-focus pictures using AI is like letting a cold, practical hand reach into distant memory and force a fixed interpretation onto what was once an open, soft space where many possible pasts could be imagined.
You can see how AI changed my family and myself when you compare it to the original. I donβt understand the almost desperation of people to find old photos that they then have AI changed. Does it make them popular or give them a life? π

Even if the most over-the-top optimistic predictions of AI proponents come true, there is no way society (consisting of 8.2 billion individual psyches) could adapt psychologically that fast to a fully automated world.

The Dead Internet Theory claims that most internet activity is already being created by bots and fake AI accounts. It should also refer to the emotional state of human users navigating an internet where most of its "touching" pictures and videos are assumed to be AI-generated.

If Bezos, Musk, Altman, Gates, Zuckerberg, Andreessen, Amodei, Huang and Hassabis were all coming out saying their p(doom) is nearly 100%, would the public freak out & would things change dramatically? If the answer is NO, then the real interesting question is: WHY?

I was asking ChatGPT something and realized I already knew the answer halfway through its writing the answer. I swiftly quit the app and think I managed to save at least half a glass of high-quality water.

I've just realized one way Sora is going to save many lives! Since no picture/video will EVER be believed again, it will drastically reduce the brag factor of people risking their lives climbing to crazy locations for a selfie, saving several hundred lives a year at least.

Is there one specific AI company that, if it went bankrupt, would make everything much safer and cause the remaining companies to act more responsibly from that moment on?

At this point, it seems that the only way to resist the damage of these videos is through self-mitigation. When you see one, just scroll past it, and don't download an app dedicated for these videos. I made a short documentary explaining why these things are bad for you:

I really hope @GaryMarcus is right about LLMs, and that IF he's right, the AI companies won't change course but keep on investing all their talent and money into LLMs. It's a much better scenario than the one where they invest everything into something that will not hit a wall.

We already had mass-scale job replacement with the Industrial Revolution, we already had existential risk with nukes, we already had the collapse of truth with social media. The destruction of human value is AIβs unique contribution.

If general intelligence is the ability to deal with novel situations one was not trained on (as per @ilyasut ), then cats - who obviously can't do math or "write a Seinfeld skit in the style of Shakespeare" - have it. Maybe generality is not emergent from higher intelligence?

Btw, if @tszzl is not an atheist, my apologies, I was just making a point. And another btw, my point is that instead of calling god "nature", just admit that you're not an atheist, you think that there is some intelligence which created everything(I do).

"Nature's imagination" - people who don't believe in god are treating nature as god, describing it as "smart," having great imagination, etc. It's like "nature" is their preferred name for god, but they think that if they will admit that, they will not be considered rational.
history is never over, the technology tree is far deeper than anyone thinks, natureβs imagination is so much greater than manβs
