We don’t have a media in NZ. We have a government-funded propaganda machine supported by a majority who are told by their TVs how to think
@NewshubPolitics
Newshub, I can prove — like, with facts ‘n stuff — over and over x 100 the times you’ve been the ones spreading disinformation. But I can’t because you, with your reach, control the narrative. So we use what channels we have, which you then rubbish. Own your own mistakes!

It’s interesting to see how in this timeline the negative comments suddenly stop. And elsewhere so many people showing that you’ve blocked them. It must be an exhausting, full-time job creating a Twitter validation space after all the thuggery on the weekend
New rules: It’s ok to shoplift IF you face serious pressure at work. It’s ok to step into traffic for a selfie IF you’re holding a protest sign. It’s fine to eat+run if you were also drinking a lot. Or hit+run, for that matter. Justice is now a social debate, laws are just guides

Two questions for every NZer: Why didn’t the PM talk to the protest, and what purpose do mandates serve. Try and keep your answers civil and just to those two points please. I’m so tired of the hate words here directed at ‘filth’ etc.

I’m confused. ~50% of fuel is tax. Fuel has jumped ~$1 recently, so ~50c is extra tax the gov didn’t write into budgets. Now they’re giving back 25c and funding that ‘loss’ from Covid coffers to a tune of $350M. Where am I going wrong in my calculations or logic, twitterverse?

I watched the debate. Two highlights:
1. Luxon spoke of measurable targets for gov agencies. Yes, keeping the top ppl to account ‘went away’ for 6 years. No focus.

~90 people die in NZ daily. Half are aged 80+. Today 7 deaths were ‘with’ covid - but we don’t know how many ‘of’, if any. Stats say this will be a small fraction and an ‘of’ will be in the 80+ group. But Gov/Media find this detail difficult - it doesn’t fit their Fear! narrative

This week/weekend I’ve noticed shops closed when they would be open, shops, restaurants and cafes operating with skeleton staff, and many examples of young, new staff trying to cope. Also empty shelves, more out-of-stock holes in shelves, etc … So again: NZ, are we in trouble?

The Disinformation Project has ignored the NZ BORA and glossed over NZP’s definition of hate.

NZ is full-steam-ahead vitriol, violence and aggression. All the PM had to do was take one first step of *talking* to the protest leaders. Instead we all watched a campaign that deliberately turned it to violence. This was always totally avoidable and always going to happen.
Ten things to look out for:
1. A media that pushes government messages without challenging them
2. Restrictions on growing diverse food at home or on small farms
3. The disappearance of cash, slowly but surely, in the name of crime control
4. Approval to buy precious metals,

Here’s a sane, polite reply: media in NZ have lost credibility. They’ve lost trust as a balanced independent Fourth Estate. They themselves stand to harm the uptake of Māori (I’m writing in English so I’m using the right words, if I were writing in Māori I would write ‘te reo’)
A big lie is told slowly, in parts, turning a little, inching on. Vax will save you from the Big Bad Thing! Now it’s become three vax, and even then it’s still transmittable and you might still get sick with a thing that can be treated at home with lozenges. So: long covid! Fear!
