At a moment when immigration enforcement is creating fear and instability across our country, denying children access to education only makes matters worse. We will not accept extreme anti-immigration policies. #txlege

This TN report on their school voucher program shows why data on these programs is so important for us to know what students participate, where they go and how they are learning. The TX program needs stronger data reporting rules to provide this type of transparency.

Tennessee’s Education Savings Account program was promoted as an option to help students from low-income families leave struggling public schools. A new report shows most kids getting ESA funding don’t match that description.

šŸ“¢ Unfortunately, Texas is moving forward with its first statewide private school voucher program, and the proposed rules are flawed and could discriminate against students. You have until September 20th to submit public comment! #txlege https://t.co/YhX2Rtmz23

As I was just prompted to fill out my parental permissions for my son's school so he can get a bandaid and join a club, per Texas #SB12, remember that schools must still support ALL students to succeed and thrive. Here's the @IDRAedu explainer:

ā€œIt’s a scary future, because if you have been to rural communities, you understand how foundational the school system is to the community,ā€ said Bellsnyder. ā€œAs we lose funding and our community schools aren’t as strong, then our communities will become weak as well.ā€

In Texas, rural schools are often the hubs of their communities. The state’s new program could compromise that.

ā€œInstead of providing this office with more capacity and more resources to do exactly what the executive order says — to make sure that everybody speaks English — they are doing the total opposite,ā€ Garibay said.

The move is an acceleration of President Donald Trump’s executive order declaring English the country’s ā€œofficial language.ā€

Hey Michigan, look to Arizona for the future that billionaires like Betsy DeVos want for our kids: A no-accountability school voucher scam where funding that used to go your neighborhood public school now goes to your neighbor’s underwear.

This #TxLege special session, @mayes_middleton's SB-12 would silence the advocacy efforts of #RuralTX and #RuralEd. This bill has been described as ā€œbanning taxpayer-funded lobbying,ā€ but it’s really about gutting #TxEd’s voice, particularly in Rural TX. A #TxLege 🧵.

UPDATE: I guess being a right-wing billionaire means never having to hear ā€œno.ā€ Betsy DeVos’s voucher scheme is back in the Senate bill after a few small tweaks to sneak through. This would ram vouchers into states that don’t want them.

Great news for public school families—the Senate parliamentarian tossed Betsy DeVos’s private school voucher scheme out of the ā€œbig beautiful bill.ā€ It’s going to be far harder for her to use a billionaire tax shelter to ram vouchers into Michigan and other states that said no.
