Trump threatened to arrest us. Abbott threatened to remove us from office. Paxton threatened to “hunt” us down. Yesterday, we received a bomb threat. But we will not back down.

This special session was supposed to be about saving lives after tragic flooding in Texas. Instead, Governor Abbott and Donald Trump are trying to rig the election and cling to power. We broke quorum because the power belongs to the voters — not Donald Trump.

History will judge this moment. It will show a Governor who used the law as a weapon to silence his people, and it will show those of us who stood for a higher principle. We took an oath to the constitution, not to a politician’s agenda. #txlege

Breaking Quorum is an exceptional and extraordinary act of last resort.  It is not a decision I take lightly.  But Texas Democrats will stand up and protect democracy, even if it comes at a great cost.
