Today I had lunch with twelve young Irish people -- a wonderful bunch in their early 20s working on rockets, biotech, software/AI, etc. I enquired about whether any were planning on leaving Ireland over the next 3 years. All hands but one went up. I asked the holdout why he was

I got a sneak peek at Opacity this week. I cannot wait to try publishing a few @base_ui components from a design tool.
Soon @OpacityHQ you can import your existing BaseUI codebase into Opacity. Design freely, then when you publish from Opacity, the generated components will use ACTUAL BaseUI 🫣 Designers get to work in a canvas, engineers get normal BaseUI. Folks have no idea the wizardry here.

I've never liked the term "accessibility". It sounds like an optional layer for a niche subset of users. I prefer "usability". Things like typeahead, focus management, keyboard nav, touch support etc. make your app easier to use for the majority of users.

shadcn 🤝 ai 🤝 coss-ui
Yes this works. You can ask the shadcn mcp to mix and match code from registries. Here I asked for the confirmation component from ai-elements (radix), but told it to use primitives from coss-ui (base). It did exactly that. Flawlessly. (See below for the full conversation).

Ireland has the second fewest homes per capita in Europe, the highest electricity prices, and the least electrified railways. What’s gone wrong? Like Britain, it has outsourced government to paperclip-maximiser independent agencies & NGOs. The answer is to restore its democracy.

I wrote a piece for the @IrishTimes on why Ireland can’t build anything these days, and how to fix that.

interesting pod from two legends about the upcoming design —> code tool @OpacityHQ. reminds me a lot of modulz 🥲 sounds like a cool take on the problem
Is it time for design's "Github Moment?" That's what today's episode with @drewwilson is all about 👀 We go deep into team workflows, component strategies, and how to succeed when everyone is a builder 👇 https://t.co/AFnOod2mE4

shadcn/ui is an excellent product design case study. solving a problem (instant but customizable ui) for a large community in a novel and elegant way is very rare and very difficult.
